Nova scotia has announced its allotment for the AIP (Atlantic Immigration Program) and NSNP (Nova Scotia Nomination Program) for 2022. The number of provincial nominations has been increased by the IRCC to 5,340 and there are 1,173 more endorsement spaces added to the AIP, which is 75% more than in 2012. There are 9025 new immigrants who are welcome by the Nove Scotia as permanent residents in 2021. It is a record-breaking number that crosses the previous high record of 2019. To encourage the growth of the economy, provinces invest more in initiatives for immigration.
For example, there is a one million extra budget included for immigration from 2022-to 2023. $1.4 million more is invested by the province for the settlement services in communities all over Nova Scotia and $895000 for more staff to support the program of immigration.
Nova Scotia is a place where many people see a lot of opportunity for themselves and their families, said Jill Balser who is the minister of skills, immigration, and labor. Population growth is important for the success of the economy in Nova Scotia.
500 Ukrainians are welcomed by Nova Scotia through the CUAET. Those applicants who immigrate through CUATE are not counted in the total allocation of newcomers.
AIP – (Atlantic Immigration Program)
The Atlantic Immigration Program was launched by the province in 2017 as a pilot program to motivate skilled migrants to immigrate to one of the four Atlantic Province. It has proved highly successful and was made permanent in 2022. This program motivates the employers in Atlantic Province to apply for an official destination, which means they don’t need LMIA to hire a foreign national.
Last year there are 1564 new permanent residents who immigrated through the AIP by Nova Scotia. It helps to boost the population of the province to over one million people, which breaks the record historically.

Successful initiatives for immigration in Atlantic Canada
Nova Scotia’s population growth is largely attributed to the NSNP as well as the Atlantic Immigration Program. Through AIP, more than 10,000 newcomers arrived in Nova Scotia between 2017-2021. During this period, about 91% of the immigrants remained in the province.
