IRCC will open the window for representatives to apply for Canadian citizenship on behalf of their clients in 2022. In the same year, the crown servants will also be eligible to apply online for citizenship.
However, please note that applicants who have already submitted their citizenship application on paper should not reapply online.
Modernization of Canadian Immigration System
This new online tool for citizenship applications is a step in the direction of modernizing the immigration system. IRCC had developed this tool last year and it allowed permanent residents to apply to test the platform.
The citizenship portal allows applicants to fill in their details gradually, and save the unfinished applications so that they can resume the process later. Users can upload supporting documents, print a PDF, submit a proof of payment, and get a confirmation of receipt.
The Immigration Minister of Canada has stated that it is his vision to make Canada’s immigration system paperless and effective. The COVID-19 pandemic has intensified the need of modernizing the immigration system. During the pandemic, Canada has conducted virtual citizenship ceremonies and has taken online tests for citizenship applicants.
To conclude, PR holders who were anxiously waiting for their citizenship process can now apply online and initiate an application for Canadian citizenship.
