The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is a migration program that is mutually managed by the government of federal, provincial, and territorial. It provides an opportunity for provinces and territories of Canada to make their own migration stream to fulfill their labor market requirements and economic development objectives.
The Provincial Nominee Program is launched by Canada in 1998 to straighten out the advantages of migration more evenly all over the provinces. And also, Canada wants to inspire small provinces and less populated areas of the country for immigrating through this program. Nowadays, the PNP weighs a significant portion of economic migration to most territories and provinces in Canada. Many smaller provinces of Canada like Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Manitoba, Newfoundland & Labrador, and Saskatchewan rely on this program to fulfill their requirements of demographic and labor force. By 2024, it is expected that 93,000 immigrants being admitted as permanent residents through PNP.
PNPs linked with Express Entry
Most provinces and territories that participate in PNP have at least one PNP stream that is oriented with the Express Entry system. This system manages three immigration programs online that are FSTP- (Federal Skilled Trade Program), FSWP- (Federal Skilled Workers Programs), and CEC- (Canadian Experience Class). PNP streams are linked with Express Entry and are also known as “enhanced” PNPs. It allows a province to select candidates with express entry profiles from the express entry pool and allows them to invite for provincial enrollment. Express Entry nominated candidates from PNP to obtain 600 CRS points which are automatically added to their score.
There are 1,134 candidates who got invitations to apply in two different PNP express entry draws. At the same time, invitations for FSWP and CEC candidates are paused to reduce the backlogs of express entry. However, express entry invitations for FSWP and CEC candidates will start again in July announced by the immigration minister of Canada.
