Every year, Canada embarks upon a journey to welcome more than 100,000 immigrants who belong to the family class.
A majority of these newcomers land in Canada through the help of the Spouses, Partners, and Children category while on the other hand there is a little population that enters Canada via the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP).
The immigration department of Canada known as the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada permits the entry of other family members too but only in rare cases. People are less aware of the rules that revolve around sponsoring the family members.
Canadian citizens and permanent residents who are above the age of 18 years and registered in Canada’s Indian Act are allowed to sponsor their family with a Canadian PR Visa.
Through this, a lot of people are able to bring their parents, grandparents, siblings, and spouses to Canada. There are two other ways regarding people whom one can sponsor.
Orphaned brother, sister, nephew, niece, or grandchild
According to the Canadian Department of immigration, IRCC, one can also sponsor an orphaned grandchild, sibling, nephew, or niece only if the following criteria are converged.
- If you have the guardianship of the child, or if they are your blood relative
- If the candidate is 18 or less
- They have not been married
- Both of their parents have expired
At the same time, you can NOT sponsor the person if any one of them is true.
- Any parent of the child is living
- They have been abandoned by their parents
- If the parents are in prison
- If the child is looked after by someone else
- If both the parents are living
- Location of the parents is not known
Immigration of another family members
You can also sponsor any blood relative if you are eligible for any one of the following conditions.
- If the person is sponsoring is a citizen of Canada and a PR registered in Canada’s Indian Act
- If the person who is being sponsored does not have a close relative alive
- The sponsor doesn’t have relatives who are a Citizen of Canada and come under the Indian Act.
- If you have a blood relative who wants to immigrate to Canada, you might want to consider them into the same sponsorship application.
Process of application
The application of sponsorship consists of two steps. First, you apply to sponsor your family members and then the next step is that they will apply for a permanent residence in Canada. The important thing to note is that you and your family members have to submit both these applications at the same time.
The following are the set of rules that need to be considered while submitting your application
- First read all the application guidelines and documents related to it carefully
- Check if you and your relatives meet all the eligibility criteria
- Produce documents and proof of the applications on time
- Make full payment of the applicable fees
- Honestly answer all the questions
All the relatives and close family members are needed to complete the health and security check process.
