Canada’s latest census shows that immigrants now represent 23% of the country’s population, breaking a record set 100 years ago. Let’s look ahead to Canada’s 2023 immigration plan.
With 2023 on the horizon, we see the Canadian government continuing to embrace foreigners and support immigration. As more immigrants come to Canada, the country expects that they will contribute to its social and economic progress. As well as aid in the reunification of families and humanitarian aid.
Experience of clients – Hope to see IRCC’s backlogs decreases in the future
It has been consistent since September 2022 that the IRCC’s application backlog has been decreasing. IRCC has reduced its backlog by 400,000 as per data released.
A further $85 million has been secured by IRCC for “reducing application inventories” and 2,521 more “front-line operations workers” will be employed between March 2019 and November 2022. It is still hoped that in 2023, these elements would continue to have a favorable impact on the IRCC’s service standards and the backlog of applications
The target of Canada’s immigration level plan for 2023
A record-high immigration target is included in Canada’s Immigration Levels Plan for 2023, which indicates that IRCC believes it can manage the backlog and accept a large number of newcomers at the same time.
In order to meet the 2023 Immigration Levels Plan objective (465,000), the following categories are considered:
- There are 82,880 Express Entry applicants
- Number of provincial nominees (PNP): 105,500
- There are 28,500 parents and grandparents
- Children and spouses: 78,000
Discovering the Possibilities of Canadian Immigration – 4 key pathways
PNP – (Provincial Nominee Program) in 2023
By the close of 2021, it was revealed that the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is likely to surpass Express Entry as Canada’s top source of immigration. The PNP plays a fundamental role in addressing the increasing labor market needs in Canada and is predicted to welcome close to 23,000 more immigrants than Express Entry in 2023.
Express Entry – (EE) in 2023
The IRCC is expected to launch “targeted” Express Entry draws in 2023 to address Canada’s labor market requirements and deficits. This draw will prioritize applicants with certain professional experience, linguistic proficiency, and/or educational backgrounds instead of issuing ITAs based on their CRS scores.
Parents and Grandparents program – (PGP) in 2023
Reunification of families will remain a priority for Canada in 2023. It is evident from the success of the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) in Canada that this is the case. In 2019, Canada expects to welcome more than 28,000 immigrants through the PGP, as well as the Super Visa and other immigration paths.
Foreign students in 2023
As of October 2018, the IRCC has adjusted the rules regarding off-campus employment hours for overseas students studying in Canada.
On November 15, 2022, international students with off-campus work authorization on their study permits will be permitted to work more than 20 hours per week during classes. It is expected that the authorization will expire on December 31, 2023.
In an effort to deal with Canada’s historic labor shortages and historically low unemployment rate. More than half a million overseas students may be able to work additional hours between now and the end of next year.
What consequence will these modifications have on Canada in 2023?
As immigration continues in 2023, the country’s population and labor force will benefit greatly.
Canada can relieve some of the pressure that now constricts its labor market by boosting the number of immigrants through both PNPs. And targeted Express Entry draws. In addition to the normal cycle of spending that takes place when people are employed. Canada will benefit economically when more qualified, professional immigrants come to the country.
Furthermore, the temporary relaxation of the off-campus work hours restriction is predicted to make Canada more attractive to international students. Thereby increasing the number of international students studying there. In a similar way to Express Entry and PNP immigrants, more international students will eventually contribute to the strengthening of Canada’s economy and labor market.
All Canadians should be more optimistic about the economy and the labor force of the country going forward.
Along with monitoring the nation’s economy and labor market. Every Canadian should think about how immigration will affect the nation in the upcoming year. Immigration can bring a host of opportunities, but it can also place a strain on existing infrastructure, services, and resources.
