IRCC has sent ITAs to Express Entry candidates in a second round of selections this week. 1400 applicants were invited to the French proficiency Express Entry draw. To be eligible, candidates needed a minimum CRS score of 410.
The current draw comes after a general draw on April 23 in which 2,095 individuals with a minimum CRS score of 529 were invited to apply. With a cut-off score of 549—the highest minimum score this year—in the previous general draw on April 10, this signifies a 20-point decrease.
Furthermore, on April 11, earlier this month, there was another draw. For Express Entry applicants qualified for category-based selection in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) disciplines, this was the first draw of the year. The department invited 4,500 applicants with a minimum CRS score of 491 to that draw.

Category-Based Selection in Express Entry – An overview
Sean Fraser, Canada’s minister of immigration, has instituted category-based selection for applicants under Express Entry. This new strategy focuses on candidates with a strong command of the French language or experience in the following industries: trades (such as plumbing and carpentry), healthcare, STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), transportation, and agriculture/agri-food.
The objective is to promote French language in minority groups outside of Quebec and address Canada’s workforce crisis. By providing talented workers to fill job shortages, these targeted selections will assist Canada in meeting its social and economic needs.
The government decided upon the categories after discussing with a range of stakeholders, including businesses, workers, unions, industries, provinces, advocacy groups, settlement organizations, and immigration specialists. The Immigration Minister may choose immigrants based on characteristics that fit Canada’s priorities, according to the June 2022 modification to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
About Express Entry
Canada’s primary immigration system, Express Entry, manages applications from skilled professionals seeking to immigrate. It was introduced in 2015 with the goal of streamlining the application process for skilled immigrants applying under the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class, three federal economic immigration programs.
In the Express Entry pool, candidates construct an online profile where they fill in details about their qualifications, schooling, employment history, language skills, and other pertinent aspects. This data is used to rank candidates with the CRS. Candidates earn points for various factors, such as age, adaptability, work experience, education, and language proficiency.
The candidates with the highest CRS scores receive ITAs for permanent residency after regular drawings from the Express Entry pool. Upon invitation, candidates have a short window of time to finish their application. Express Entry has transformed Canada’s immigration system, making it more efficient and transparent. It also enhances responsiveness to the changing demands of the labor market. It allows the government to select applicants with the skills and qualities needed for Canada’s economy. The chosen candidates are in a position to make meaningful contributions to Canadian society.
