Yukon gains more PNP nominations for permanent residency, i,e., Yukon has secured an additional 67 nomination spaces for its Yukon Nominee Program (YNP) this year, bringing its total allocation for 2025 to 282 nominations.
This marks an increase from the 215 spaces initially allocated by the federal government after nationwide reductions cut most PNP allocations by 50%.
The Government of Yukon announced the increase in allocations on August 21, 2025, through its official website.
With the boost in available nominations and after accounting for previously issued Invitations to Apply (ITAs), carry-over applications, and 13 ITA withdrawals, the province now has 80 new invitations to issue in August 2025.
Throughout 2025, Yukon has been actively advocating for more nomination spaces to help its employers address labor shortages.
Earlier this year, the YNP introduced an Expression of Interest (EOI) system, opening its intake on March 31 and receiving over 500 submissions from employers looking to support foreign nationals for immigration to the territory.
The intake period closed on April 22, after which the YNP began issuing ITAs to employers nominating candidates who met specific provincial priorities, including:
- Living and working in Yukon for at least one year
- Graduating from a Yukon post-secondary institution
- Identifying as French-speaking (Francophone)
- Holding a Temporary Measure Letter of Support, which allows them to obtain a special Yukon work permit
Nearly 400 EOI submissions fell under one or more of these priorities.
ITAs Issued Under YNP In 2025
The YNP processed 54 carry-over applications from 2024 through January 22, 2025. This left the province with 161 nominations available for the remainder of the year.
Between May 23 and May 27, the YNP issued 153 ITAs distributed as follows:
- 19 Temporary Measure Letter of Support recipients (from 2024 applications)
- 54 Temporary Measure Letter of Support recipients (from 2025 applications)
- 78 applicants aligning with other provincial priorities, such as francophone immigration or Yukon graduates
- 2 professionals working in regulated healthcare occupations
Out of these, 13 ITAs were later withdrawn either by the employer or by the department, leaving Yukon with 80 invitations still available.
The province has also reserved 10 nomination spaces for healthcare professionals until September 20, 2025. Employers who want to nominate candidates in regulated healthcare positions must apply before this date. For further details, they are encouraged to contact the YNP directly.
About Yukon Nominee Program (YNP)
To qualify for a nomination under the YNP, applicants must have a full-time, permanent job offer from an eligible Yukon employer and meet the requirements of the stream they apply to.
The YNP operates four immigration streams:
- Critical Impact Worker
- Skilled Worker
- Express Entry
- Yukon Community Program Pilot (now closed)
Each stream has its own unique eligibility rules, outlined on the Government of Yukon’s official website.
Candidates with job offers classified under TEER 4 or 5 of the National Occupational Classification (NOC) can apply through the Critical Impact Worker Stream. Those with offers in TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 categories may apply through either the Skilled Worker Stream or the Express Entry Stream, provided they meet all program requirements.
How The YNP Application Process Works?
As Yukon gains more PNP nominations for permanent residency, let us discuss how the YNP application process works.
Well, when the EOI intake period opened in spring 2025, employers submitted EOIs between March 31 and April 22. These were then placed in the EOI pool.
After intake closed, the YNP reviewed submissions and selected employers based on provincial priorities. Employers who were chosen received an Invitation to Apply (ITA), allowing them to submit a formal application nominating a foreign worker.
If the application is approved, the foreign worker and employer must sign a Tri-Partite Agreement (TPA) with the Government of Yukon.
With the TPA in place, the nominee can then apply to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for permanent residence. This must be done within six months of nomination approval.
Additional Program For Entrepreneurs
Beyond worker-based immigration, Yukon also offers the Yukon Business Nominee Program, which caters to entrepreneurs who want to establish businesses in the territory.
This program operates under different eligibility requirements and is designed to attract investors and business-minded newcomers interested in contributing to the territory’s economy.
