The Government of Canada has hinted that it will raise the intake limit for new immigration programs for permanent residence.
Recently, Canada launched an online portal for six new immigration pathways international student graduates, French speakers, and essential workers. Through these programs, eligible applicants can secure Permanent Residency.
Canada had opened the online portal for new immigration streams on May 6 to admit nearly 90,000 immigrants. Soon, the intake limit for International Student Graduates was reached within 24 hours and IRCC had to close the application intake.
Now, the immigration minister of Canada has stated that the government is open to discussion regarding the possibility of increasing the intake limit. However, the department has to analyze the results of all immigration programs first before reaching a conclusion. After a proper assessment only, the government will be able to decide whether there is actually a requirement for raising the caps or not.
All new temporary programs have received a great response from permanent residence applicants. Out of the six new streams, the program for international graduates reached its cap within 24 hours. And the other two streams for healthcare and essential services workers have received around 10,000 applications. The three other streams for French-speaking candidates do not have any intake limit yet and are open for applicants until November 2021.
The launch of these new immigration pathways for Canadian permanent residency is an attempt by the government to achieve the immigration target for 2021. The government has set higher immigration levels for the upcoming 3 years to help the country in economic recovery post-coronavirus.
