Canada is known to have the highest per-capita immigration rates globally. Recently, the estimates of Statistics Canada have also indicated that Canada has observed the largest population bump since July 1971.
The majority of the provinces have shown this tremendous population growth. The Atlantic province of Canada, Nova Scotia has posted high growth of population largely due to immigration. In order to experience a large population expansion, Immigration has always been the priority of all the provinces.
Since 2015, the population of Nova Scotia is growing at a steady pace partly because of migration from other provinces, especially from Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
Moreover, In a period of one year (Between October 2018 and October 2019), Nova Scotia’s population grew by 12,339 as per the data provided by Statistics Canada. Of which immigrants accounted for 7,165 residents.
This growth of 1.28 percent is impressive. And has set a record of the highest growth witnessed over a stretch of one year since 1972. As of 1st October 2019 the population has been recorded as 976,768.
In the third quarter of 2019, the Atlantic province’s population has risen by 5,373 people. Out of this increased population, 2,471 belongs to the number of immigrants who settled in the province.
Maintaining its record for the 16th consecutive quarter, the province gained 1,090 interprovincial migrants who preferred to settle in Nova Scotia.
However, the natural growth of the province is declining since 2016. The natural growth rate is the difference between the number of births and the number of deaths occurring in a year, For a stable growth of population, natural growth plays a crucial role. Thus, steps must be taken to stabilize the natural growth.
Migration flows are directly related to a number of factors. Living a good quality of life is one of them. Nova Scotia offers great service in terms of the healthcare and educational sectors.
In addition to that, the province has adequate job offers for skilled workers. Also, the provincial nominee program of the province provides a faster way to Canadian permanent residence.
Data from IRCC has also revealed a large population growth in Nova Scotia. This incredible population growth in the Atlantic province is definitely good enough to stimulate the economy of the province.
And as said by Finance and Treasury Broad Minister Karen Casey- “this growth is a testament to the great things happening” in the province of Nova Scotia.
