There are two PNP (Provincial Nominee Program) draws conducted by Ontario in May, according to the data released from the provincial government.
Earlier month, the ONIP (Ontario Immigration Nominee Program) had paused releasing the result of the PNP draw due to the election of the provincial government that ended on 2 June.
There were 57 candidates who got invitations on 4 May to apply in the EOI (Express of Interest) system. Invited candidates must be qualified for the employer job requirement: In-Demand Skills Stream and candidates must score more than or equal to 27.
On the PNP draw of 26 May, there were 535 candidates who got invited for notification of interest. Invited candidates must be qualified for Ontario’s Express Entry Skilled trade stream and must be scored between 295 to 461 in CRS.
About In-Demand Skills Stream in Ontario
The In-Demand Skills Stream emphasizes the demand for provincial workers more than the professional skill level. Several immigration programs focus on “high skilled” professions that are considered by the government, but Ontario still faces a labor shortage in those professions which are considered to be “low skilled”.
Those foreign workers who are qualified for the job requirements of Ontario or have nine months of cumulative work experience in the last three years in the province are eligible to apply for a PNP. Candidates who have seasonal work experience do not meet the job requirements of the province. Candidates with part-time experience may be eligible if their working hours meet the requirements of a number of working hours. To be eligible for the job requirements candidates must have completed more than 1200 hours of their paid work in one job.
Some of the other requirements to meet the eligibility:
- Candidates must have a high school education certificate.
- Candidates need to score more than 4 in all proficiencies of the language test. And,
- Candidates must have sufficient funds to settle in the province.
If you want to get an invitation under this stream you need to create a profile in the EOI system of Ontario. This system ranks candidates’ profiles on the basis of their scoring matrix. This scoring matrix is based on the educational qualification of candidates, the intended destination of candidates, and the work experience of candidates, in Ontario. Ontario wants to support those candidates who have the skills and experience to succeed in the labor market of Ontario through this stream.
Creating an account in the EOI system does not guarantee that you will get an invitation to apply for PNP. The validity of your profile in the pool of EOI of Ontario is 365 days since the registering date of your profile.
About the Express Entry Skilled Stream of Ontario
The Skilled Trades stream allows OINP (Ontario Immigration Nominee Program) to discover the Express Entry pool for candidates currently residing in Ontario. The pool of applicants for three main categories of economic immigration such as the federal skilled working class, the Canadian experience class, and the federal skilled trade class is managed by the Federal Express Entry system.
To be eligible for the Skilled Trades stream, candidates must have a minimum of one year of full-time Ontario work experience, or the equivalent of part-time work in a skilled trade listed in Minor Group 633 or Major Group 72, 73, or 82, as per the NOC (National Occupational Classification) of Canada.
Candidates do not need a job offer under the Skilled Trades stream to apply, but they must meet all mandatory federal and provincial program requirements.
Those Candidates who are enrolled for permanent residency in Canada through the Skilled Trades stream obtain 600 extra CRS points and their chances to get invited will increase to apply for permanent residence in Canada through Express Entry.
