The popular Canadian province, Ontario, is introducing the Expression of Interest system for five immigration streams of the OINP.This new system would replace the previous one which was based on the first-come-first-served pattern. The public has the opinion that this new Expression of Interest system would be “fairer”. EOI system is points-based. In this system, candidates are ranked based on the points they obtain through labor market and human capital factors. Many other Canadian provinces are already using this system for the immigration process.
Ontario will start the new EOI system for the following immigration streams:
Masters Graduate Stream;
Ph.D. Graduate Stream;
Employer Job Offer: International Student, Foreign Worker, and In-Demand Skills.
Note: The above-mentioned streams are currently not open for the new applicants. The province will open these streams only when the new system is launched. We can expect that the Expression of Interest system will be applied to these five streams in the coming weeks.
Why does Ontario need to shift to a new EOI system?
Ontario used to open its web portal for immigrants and the system was highly competitive as the registration window opened only for a few minutes. So, people experienced technical difficulties due to slow internet connection or other things. Therefore, many people considered it unfair. The EOI system will now prove to be constructive as applicants will get a provincial score based on which they will receive a provincial nomination.
