IRCC’s language test designation criteria are now available, offering insights into the approval process for language testing organizations.
Language exams are administered by IRCC to both groups of applicants for Student Direct Stream (SDS) and Economic Class Permanent Residence in order to confirm their language proficiency.
These linguistic requirements are used by the IRCC to assess a candidate’s suitability for Canadian society. There are a number of federal and provincial pathways that use human capital scores to rank candidates, particularly for those from lower socioeconomic classes. The results of a language test can also affect your human capital score. The federal Express Entry system, for instance, invites the top candidates to apply for permanent residence.
Since IRCC previously admitted there were no such requirements in existence. The revelation of the requirements language testing companies must achieve to receive IRCC designation is a noteworthy move. This makes it difficult for more language tests to be made available to applicants from the SDS and the economic class. An organization that conducts language tests would not be aware of the conditions it needs to satisfy in order to receive IRCC approval in the absence of such standards.
IRCC’s language test designation criteria are now available
The four factors below are listed as the primary requirements on the IRCC website:
Expertise: IRCC tests must assess performance in reading, writing, oral comprehension/listening, and speaking in functional English or French at all levels, from low proficiency to high proficiency.
Reliability: For candidates with equivalent levels of language skill, a test should produce consistently comparable results. Variations of the test must retain constant levels of difficulty between administrations.
Integrity/security: In terms of test site arrangements, candidate registration, test administration, and result distribution. As well as other issues, a recognized testing organization is required to follow security measures. Moreover, for a test to be approved, effective anti-fraud procedures are required.
Availability: Based on a sizable demand for external language testing, a testing company should provide exams to candidates across Canada and worldwide in order to receive IRCC certification.
