According to a report by Globe and Mail, IRCC sets goals for category-based Express Entry invites for 2023.
Six carefully chosen categories, each created to achieve a particular economic goal, were launched by the IRCC beginning in late June.
The Globe and Mail’s analysis demonstrates an increased focus on hiring STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) experts based on data obtained from IRCC. Notably, IRCC expects to give out a sizable proportion of this year’s Express Entry invitations between 28 and 31 percent to those with recent expertise in a variety of STEM positions, including software developers and data scientists.
500 applications participated in the only STEM invitation round that has been conducted to far.
Surprisingly, the goal set for STEM careers far exceeds those of other occupational groups. The target range, for instance, is between 11 and 15% for candidates who speak French fluently. Specific healthcare vocations have a target range of nine to twelve percent. Trades have a range of three to four percent. As well as jobs in transportation and agriculture have a target range of one to two percent.
About Express Entry
The IRCC uses Express Entry as their platform for managing skilled worker applications seeking permanent residence in Canada. The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) are the three programs that are administered by the system.
Candidates who have submitted Express Entry profiles are ranked using the CRS. With the help of a point system, variables including age, education, language ability, and work experience are evaluated. The top-scoring applicants are then chosen from the Express Entry pool by the Canadian government, which issues them an ITA for permanent residency.
There are three types of drawings available through Express Entry:
- IRCC issues invitations in general rounds to candidates with the top CRS scores for permanent residence applications.
- In program-specific rounds, IRCC invites candidates with the highest CRS scores, eligible for a particular Express Entry program.
- In category-based rounds, IRCC invites candidates with top CRS scores, eligible for specific categories aligned with IRCC’s economic objectives.
Category-based Express Entry selection – What is it?
IRCC has implemented category-centered draws for Express Entry applicants, placing a premium on those with strong French language proficiency or industry experience in the following fields:
- Healthcare
- Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions
- Trades, such as carpenters, plumbers, and contractors
- Transport
- Agriculture and agri-food
Following a nationwide public survey that received 289 responses from a range of stakeholders, these categories were chosen. They also took into account labor market predictions, input from IRCC partners, and input from the provinces and territories.
There have been three draws for French language proficiency since the introduction of category-oriented draws. And 6,900 applicants have received invitations for permanent residence as a result. In addition, 1,500 applicants were invited to two draws for trades jobs and 2,000 applicants were invited to two draws for healthcare occupations.
