In order to accommodate candidates using the Express Entry system for the third draw of the month, the IRCC has extended ITAs. IRCC grants 2095 ITAs in the recent express entry draw.
To be considered for this draw, candidates had to have a minimum CRS score of 529. The dates of this month’s other two draws were April 10 and 11.
The April 10 draw was a wide-ranging event that included applicants from every program in the Express Entry system. Moreover, with a minimum CRS score of 549, it established a noteworthy threshold by sending invitations to 1,280 candidates. This was a substantial improvement over the last general draw on March 25 and the highest minimum CRS score needed for any draw in 2024. To be considered in that previous draw, contestants had to receive a minimum CRS score of 524.
Furthermore, this month saw the first draw of the year that was exclusively intended to pick Express Entry applicants who qualified for category-based selection in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) occupations. In this case, 4,500 candidates were invited by the department, with eligibility requiring a minimum CRS score of 491.

Understanding Category-Based Selection in Express Entry
IRCC gained the ability to target Express Entry candidates with specific human capital attributes through the introduction of category-based selection draws in May 2023. These traits can encompass language proficiency or professions that are particularly in demand.
The final categories for 2023 were determined after thorough consultations with IRCC’s partners and stakeholders. Early in 2024, the agency announced it would continue using these same categories throughout the year. The identified categories include:
- Healthcare Occupations: This includes professionals working in various healthcare-related roles.
- Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Professions: Targeting individuals in STEM fields.
- Trades Occupations: Encompasses trades like carpenters, plumbers, and contractors.
- Transport Occupations: Includes roles related to transportation and logistics.
- Agriculture and Agri-Food Occupations: Targets professions within the agricultural and food production sectors.
- Strong French Proficiency: Requires candidates to demonstrate a high level of French language skill.
To qualify for the occupation-based categories, candidates must have at least six months of continuous full-time work experience in a relevant occupation within the past three years.
For consideration under the French proficiency category, candidates must submit language test results demonstrating at least a score of 7 in each of the four language skills according to the Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens (NCLC).
Understanding Express Entry – Canada’s Immigration System Explained
Applications for economic immigration candidates in the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) are processed through the Express Entry system.
When eligible candidates create a profile on the IRCC website, they are assigned scores based on various human capital factors, including age, occupation, work experience, education, and language proficiency. The final CRS score is calculated by aggregating these individual scores.
Furthermore, the best likelihood of obtaining an ITA for permanent residency in Canada is for those with the highest CRS scores. In the event that a candidate receives an ITA, they send the IRCC their final application, which will be processed in six months.
