In a statement from the Canadian government, the ArrriveCan app will no longer be required for all travelers from October 1. As per the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), beginning October 1, 2022, no passport or visa is required for all travelers, regardless of their citizenship:
Use ArriveCAN’s app or website to submit public health information;
- Vaccination proof;
- Testing prior to or upon arrival;
- Quarantine or isolate people with COVID-19;
- As soon as they arrive in Canada, they should be monitored and reported if they develop COVID-19 symptoms.
In addition, Canadian trains and plains will not require masks. PHAC loosened travel restrictions due to Canada’s high immunization rate, low hospitalization and mortality rates, and the availability and usage of vaccine boosters. As always, the government strongly recommends that travelers wear masks and have their health checked.
“We have reached a point at the border where we can relax the sanitary precautions thanks to Canadians who have taken the time to get immunized,” said Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos. The cold months will bring the spread of COVID-19 and other respiratory infections, so it is important to maintain current vaccinations for COVID-19, including booster shots, and to practice personal public health precautions.
It will become optional to use ArriveCan
ArriveCan will no longer require foreign travelers to download their app. To show CBSA agents their itinerary and immunizations documentations, travelers won’t need to upload them to the app.
For domestic travel, there are no requirements
Given the current state of the COVID-19 pandemic, this announcement was anticipated. As more individuals receive vaccinations, the number of cases has been decreasing. The virus is moving away from being a pandemic and toward becoming endemic, like the common cold.
As of late June, Canada had already postponed the need for vaccinations for both domestic and international travel. Since 90% of Canadians had already received the COVID-19 vaccine at the time. Authorities from the government claimed that the suspension of those vaccine requirements was a reflection of the improved public health situation.
More than 612 million COVID-19 cases have been documented globally since the pandemic began. More than six million people have died as a result. Given how many people choose not to undergo testing or other forms of diagnosis, these figures are probably higher.
