IRCC has issued 5,900 ITAs in the third Express Entry draw of this week. This draw, focused on candidates with professional experience in STEM-related professions, requires a minimum CRS score of 481 for consideration. Explore your immigration opportunities with the latest IRCC Express Entry draw.
The third draw of this week took place on December 8. In a targeted draw for French proficiency, the IRCC sent invitations to 1,000 candidates on December 7th who had a CRS of 470. In an all-program draw on December 6th, 4,750 candidates with a CRS score of 561 were invited. For more than a month, these drawings are the first Express Entry draws. In a category-based selection draw for healthcare jobs, 3,600 candidates with a CRS score of 431 were invited in the previous round on October 26.
Candidates who received ITAs in recent draws were having trouble uploading their final applications to the Express Entry profile builder, the IRCC said on Twitter on November 14. The IRCC acknowledged the problem had been fixed in a follow-up tweet two days later. However, they did not give an explanation for the lengthy processing halt during that period.
Canada resumes Express Entry draws after October 2023 pause
Two further draws were held in the same week. The IRCC held a category-based selection draw on October 25. They invited 300 candidates, with a focus on French language competency. For consideration, a CRS score of at least 486 was necessary.
The IRCC invited 1,548 candidates alone for the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) in the draw that took place on October 24. In order to be considered, candidates needed to achieve a minimum score of 776. Significantly, candidates for Express Entry who are recommended through the PNP automatically receive an extra 600 CRS points, which raises the minimum CRS score for this particular draw. These specifics highlight the dynamic character of immigration to Canada by presenting different draw types and requirements. As the Express Entry system is continually developing, stay informed about the most recent advancements.

Category-based selection – An overview
The IRCC announced in May of this year that it will be holding rounds of invites for Express Entry based on particular categories. Preference is given to candidates who fulfill requirements related to characteristics such as fluency in French or prior expertise in a specific field.
- STEM professions
- Transport
- Agriculture and agri-food
- Healthcare
- Trades
Scarcity of skilled labor in various fields such as healthcare, STEM, trades, transportation, and agriculture is putting pressure on Canada’s economy and affecting vital industries including the supply chain and healthcare. In response to these shortages, Marc Miller, Canada’s Minister of Immigration, highlights the need to admit more skilled workers, especially given that nine million Canadians are expected to retire by 2030. By the conclusion of 2025, 114,000 Federal High Skilled (Express Entry) immigrants will have been admitted yearly, according to the current Immigration Levels Plan for 2023–2025.
The anticipation is that they will unveil a new Levels Plan by November 1st at the latest. Even with such lofty goals, there has been a deceleration in Express Entry applications since Minister Miller took office, according to recent deliberations in the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration.
A malfunction in the IT system caused by the introduction of additional categories resulted in fewer draws, as stated by Deputy Immigration Minister Christiane Fox. Going ahead, the department intends to make up for the missed draws.
Moreover, Deputy Minister Fox stated that a draw for skilled trades professionals based on categories is planned for December of this year.
Canada has used this method for 12 draws since the first category-based draw in June, yielding more than 11,000 ITAs. Every invited candidate in the Express Entry pool had an existing presence within the system, creating an interesting observation.
An overview of Express Entry
Applications for permanent residence from individuals engaged in various immigration programs, such as the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Canadian Experience Class, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program, are processed through Express Entry, an application management system.
Within the Express Entry framework, the system evaluates candidates through the use of the CRS. Candidates receive points from the CRS based on a variety of human capital qualities, including age, education, occupation, job experience, and language competence. Every factor has a particular point value.
Applicants with the highest cumulative CRS scores are more likely to be ITA. Candidates have 60 days from the moment. And they get an ITA to file their final application to IRCC for permanent status.
The primary objective of the IRCC is to expedite the immigration process by completing all Express Entry applications in less than six months.
