The Canadian department of Immigration, IRCC been facing a huge number of backlogs in immigration applications since July. The total number has not summed up to nearly 1.8 million.
According to the data and statistics received by the IRCC, Immigration, refugees and Citizenship Canada, the following are the number of immigration applications in the department’s inventory until 27th of October, this year:
- 548,000 applications related to PR
- 776,000 applications of temporary residents
- 468,000 applications for Citizenship Canada
- Inventory had a total of 1,792,000 applications.
It has been noticed that since July 2021, there has been a rise in the number of these applications. The difference is 350,000.
The recent backlog figure report by Nicholas Keurig until July was published in August which reported:
- 375,000 PR applications
- 703,000 TR applications
- 370,000 applications for Canadian Citizenship
- A total of 1,448,000 applications in the inventory
The spokesperson by IRCC explained that these backlogs are a result of the ongoing travel restrictions because of the pandemic. There are restrictions on the border and very restraint operation international capacity. The failure of the applicants to get the documents due to the outbreak of the pandemic are some of the contributing factors to be blamed for the delay. This acts as a barrier that stops IRCC to process the applications and finalizing them.
He further added that they are looking into the matter and working on the challenges. He also acknowledged that despite working and trying the best to control the situation, the candidates still have to wait for a long time while their applications are under review and being processed. They promised to keep striving until the situation hopefully eases up. He thanked and acknowledged that trouble caused by this had hopefully wanted to see them immigrating to Canada soon.
Along with the backlogs, IRCC also shared the data and the statistics of the applications that have already been processed during the time of the pandemic:
- Between January and September, this year, 337,000 applications for permanent residency were processed. In 2020, 214,000 applications were processed.
- 1,500,000 TR applications were processed starting January till September. 1,700,000 applications were processed last year.
- For the same duration 134,000 citizenship applications were processed. Whereas in 2020 nearly 80,000 applications were processed.
