The Immigration Minister of Canada, Marco Mendicino, has declared that Express Entry candidates who are bilingual and francophone will be eligible to get more points in the Comprehensive Ranking System score now.
Express Entry candidates who speak French used to get 15 points. Now, they are eligible to receive 25 points for speaking French. Bilingual candidates will get 50 points, an increase of 20 points from before.
So, this will increase their chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply for Permanent Residence in the express entry draw.
Last year, Canada admitted 2.82 percent of French-speaking immigrants outside Quebec. Over 60,000 French-speaking candidates came to Canada as immigrants between the years 2003 and 2019.
As per a government media release, Canada now targets to welcome at least 4.4 percent of French-speaking candidates by 2023. These candidates must reside outside of Quebec. Canada will try to reach this target once travel restrictions are eased in the country.
Marco Mendicino has expressed that attracting Francophone immigrants outside Quebec will help the French-speaking minority communities flourish and help in economic growth.
The Immigration Ministry of Canada will invest $40.8 million for five years to assist in the integration of Francophone communities.
The share of French-speakers who are getting an ITA for Canada PR is increasing each year. It was 4.5 percent in 2018 and then reached 5.6 percent in 2019.
Also, it should be noted that Quebec has its own immigration system for French-speaking immigration candidates.
