A decrease was reported in the IRCC’s inventory for the month of August.
A representative of IRCC provided Media with inventory data showing that the backlog has been decreased by 95,204 people in just six weeks.
All business lines have experienced the following inventory changes since July:
- 2,583,827 people as of August 31, 2022
- 2,679,031 people between July 15-17, 2022
- 2,387,884 people between June 1-6, 2022
- 2,130,385 people between April 30 and May 2, 2022
- 2 031,589 people between April 11 and 12, 2022
- 1,844,424 people between March 15 and 17, 2022
- 1,815,628 people on February 1, 2022
- 1 813 144 people on December 15, 2021
- 1,792,404 people on October 27, 2021
- 1,447,474 people on July 6, 2021
A new inventory tracking website was launched by the IRCC just now. The IRCC’s inventory stood at 2.4 million on July 31, according to that website. They met service criteria for 1.1 million cases, while 1.3 million were late.

On July 15, there were 444,792 applicants for citizenship, but on September 1 there were 371,620. According to the database, permanent residents decreased from 514,116 on July 17 to 513,923 on August 31. Further, 1,698,284 people lived in temporary housing as of August 31 compared to 1,720,123 in July. Each of the three primary groups has decreased as a result.
PNP and Express Entry Inventories
As of last month, there were 51,616 Express Entry applicants in the inventory, down from 40,180 today.
IRCC continues to invite applicants from all Express Entry programs for rounds of invitations. A Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) application was required only for individuals who met the PNP requirements between September 21, 2021, and July 6, 2022. Enhanced PNPs and basic PNPs are the two types of PNPs offered by the PNP. Provincial systems handle basic PNPs, while Express Entry handles upgraded PNPs.
In August, the number of base PNPs rose from 35,599 in July to 41,832 in August, although the inventory of PNPs managed by Express Entry decreased.
A rise in family class inventory is continuing
From 118,251 in July, there are 125,746 people in the family-class immigration program. Among all immigration programs, Spouses and Partners has the second largest applicant pool with 61,073 applicants. In terms of the number of refugees, privately sponsored refugees comprise 68,123 individuals.
The number of parents and grandparents waiting for judgment under the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) has increased from 47,025 in July to 53,029 now.
Reduction of backlogs by the IRCC
During his speech on August 29, Fraser outlined how Canada is improving the immigration system and reducing the backlog, including updating IRCC operations, adding application status trackers, recruiting up to 1,250 new staff members by fall, and publishing monthly data on IRCC’s website.
