Nineteen immigrants were sworn in as Canadian citizens in a virtual citizenship ceremony on this Canada day.
This is the first time in history when immigrants took an oath of citizenship across the country at the same time.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, all the in-person ceremonies that were scheduled for March were canceled. Canada came up with the idea of organizing online citizenship ceremonies, and since April 1, Canada has arranged around 1,000 virtual citizenship ceremonies.
This Canada Day, 19 new citizens ranging between the age group from 6 to 66 years, representing 13 different countries of origin, participated in the virtual citizenship ceremony. They attended the ceremony from their homes across various territories and provinces of Canada, streamed live on Vimeo.
Alternatively, for post-ceremony luncheon, all the new citizens received a delivery to their homes from Tim Hortons.
