Three Canadian provinces Alberta, Prince Edward Island, and British Columbia issued provincial nomination results for candidates in various sought-after occupations under their respective Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).
Two of Canada’s most well-known PNP are the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP) and the Alberta Provincial Nominee Program, which was formerly the Alberta Advantage Immigrant Program (AAIP). These programs offer a variety of immigration paths designed to accommodate a wide spectrum of people, such as seasoned business owners, highly qualified professionals with in-demand specializations, recent graduates from abroad, and other recent immigrants. Crucially, these programs serve people living outside of the corresponding provinces as well as those living there, providing a thorough strategy for drawing in and assisting the immigration of people with highly valued credentials and abilities.

It’s important to note that provinces and territories have distinct scoring systems for their Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs), which operate independently of each other. This means that they have varied scoring grades and criteria, making direct comparisons between them inappropriate.
British Columbia
This week, the BCPNP sent out invites in the Skilled Worker and International Graduate category, which encompasses the British Columbia Express Entry program. Also, this specific stream seeks to draw in overseas students with in-demand talents that meet the demands of British Columbia’s labor market.
The province sent out at least 200 ITAs to foreign graduates and skilled professionals in five different industries where job opportunities are in high demand.
- Childcare sector: Invitations are extended to candidates with a minimum score of 60.
- Construction sector: Invitations require a minimum score of 75.
- Healthcare sector: A minimum score of 60 is necessary to receive invitations.
- Tech sector: Prospective candidates need a minimum score of 108 for invitations.
- Veterinary care sector: Invitations are granted to candidates with a minimum score of 60.
Alberta
Alberta’s Advantage Immigrant Program (AAIP) saw the issuance of 44 NIOs on February 6. These are the equivalent of ITAs. The notifications, sent through the “Dedicated Healthcare Pathway with Alberta job offer,” targeted individuals with professional healthcare experience.
Moreover, obtaining a job offer from an Albertan business and having appropriate healthcare experience within the province were prerequisites for invitation eligibility. Applicants who met the minimum cut-off score of 302 were the only ones eligible for the issuance of an ITA.
Prince Edward Island
Prince Edward Island (PEI) recently sent out a total of 121 EOIs to candidates in the Labor and Express Entry categories under the PEI Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
Candidates with a minimum EOI score of 65 and employment with a PEI company were eligible for consideration. Over the last 12 months, the province has effectively welcomed 2,307 candidates, with the majority—2,253 Expressions of Interest—being assigned to Labor and Express Entry candidates. The 54 invites that remained were for candidates under the category of Business Work Permit Entrepreneur.
Strategies to Enhance Your Invitation Prospects in PNP
All Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) offer streams that cater to in-demand professions that match the labor market requirements of their respective locations. However, many PNPs reserve pathways for individuals with ties to the province, such as having graduated from a DLI, possessing a job offer letter, or having familial ties within the province or territory.
Prospective immigrants who wish to relocate to Canada may find it advantageous to match their work background with the requirements of a particular province or territory.
The establishment of PNPs across Canada is mainly due to the focused strategy of filling important gaps in the labor market. Provinces aggressively seek out and promote occupations that are in high demand in order to draw in newcomers who may help address these severe labor shortages. In 2025, PNPs will likely overtake Express Entry as the main immigration gateway into Canada, demonstrating PNP’s continued importance in the nation’s overall economic policy.
