IRCC held the latest Express Entry draw on January 23, 2024. 1040 applicants received invitations in this draw with a minimum CRS score requirement of 543.
Express Entry Draws Update
Following the January 10, 2024, draw, 1,510 candidates were invited to a general draw that included all Express Entry administered programs. This was the second draw of 2024. A minimum CRS score of 546 was required for candidates to be eligible.
Following a busy December in which the IRCC held seven separate Express Entry draws, these latest draws were held. Two of them were all-inclusive draws that included every program, and the other five catered to particular categories. Targeted Express Entry candidates who fulfilled French language proficiency requirements. As well as those in trades, transportation, STEM, agricultural, and agri-food occupations, are drawn to these category-based selection processes.
The IRCC held 42 Express Entry draws in total in 2023. Of these, the bulk, or nineteen draws, were extensive and are now known as general draws. In addition, from late June to December, there were seventeen drawings for category-based selection. Additionally, applicants nominated under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) were the only focus of five draws. Those seeking federal skilled worker status were the focus of one draw.
It’s difficult to forecast how Express Entry results will develop in 2024. The IRCC no longer conducts draws at a predictable frequency, and the kinds of draws that will take place are still up in the air.
However, the department’s goal is to bring in a maximum of 110,770 new permanent residents to Canada in 2024, as stated in the Immigration Levels Plan 2024–2026. ITAs must be sent out in sufficient numbers in order to meet the 117,500 admissions target for 2025. Since the IRCC might take up to six months to process an Express Entry application, it is anticipated that most of these invites will be extended in 2024.

With a minimum CRS score of 543, 1,040 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) were sent out in the General draw on January 23. Comparably, a General draw on January 10 produced 1,510 ITAs with a minimum CRS score of 546.
An overview of Express Entry
Established in 2015, Express Entry serves as an application management system intended to expedite the processing of applications for applicants seeking economic immigration who are registered in the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class.
This system makes use of the CRS. It rates applicants according to a number of human capital factors, such as age, job experience, education, language ability, and occupation. Through this approach, each candidate is given a score. As well as the candidates who have the highest scores have a better chance of being ITA for the status of PR.
The department launched a new category-based selection procedure in May 2023, classifying applicants according to predetermined standards. For applicants who could demonstrate their eligibility in one of the six newly established Express Entry draw categories, this screening process was instituted. Moreover, by concentrating on specific criteria within each category, the implementation sought to optimize the applicant selection process. And ensure a more individualized and effective method of inviting people to take part in the Express Entry draws.
These are the six new categories
- Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions
- Healthcare occupations
- Agriculture and agri-food occupations
- Transport occupations
- Trades occupations, such as carpenters, plumbers, and contractors
- Strong French proficiency
For eligibility, applicants with these qualities have to be included in the application pool of one of the three programs overseen by Express Entry.
A substantial benefit is granted to members of the Express Entry pool who also get a nomination under the Provincial Nominee Program. And an additional 600 CRS points are required. Their chances of receiving an ITA in the upcoming lottery are significantly increased by doing this.
Candidates for Express Entry must apply to IRCC for PR status in whole within 60 days of obtaining an ITA.
