During the period 12 October to 16 November, British Columbia will no longer hold draws for BC PNP (British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program). The PNP draws in British Columbia are normally held once a week. This wouldn’t be unusual for several provinces.
A few adjustments may be required for PNP across Canada as Canada prepares to update its National Occupation Classification (NOC) system for the first time since 2016.
Application already in the pool for candidates to the BC PNP will be withdrawn on 12 October. They must re-apply when the system reopens in November. If you receive an invitation on or before 12 October, you have 30 days to submit your application. This will be evaluated according to the NOC 2016 standards. 80% of applications are expected to be processed within 3 months, as the per BC government.
Pause has some exceptions. In addition, ITAs will continue to be awarded under the Entrepreneur Immigration Program until November 13, 2022, for applicants under the Health Authority or International Post-Graduate categories.
NOC 2021 changes
Applicants for Express Entry and Provincial Nominee Program are often assessed using Canada’s NOC system. Aiming to attract talented immigrants to work in Canada, these initiatives aim to help them. NOC conducts research, administers government initiatives, supports skill development, and assists Canada in managing its immigration and foreign worker programs by breaking down employment activities in Canada so that it can better understand the Canadian labor market.
The federal government updates the NOC once every five years. Every ten years, the entire system is updated. The NOC has undergone modifications that are a reflection of the labor market and the economy in Canada. The NOC 2016 approach divides employment into four groups, ranging from management to low-skilled positions It depends simply on the type of employment a candidate holds.
As part of the new system, jobs will be classified into six tiers based on their Training, Education, Experience, and Responsibilities (TEER). Statistic Canada says the new framework emphasizes transferrable skills and competencies over professional experience.
