Ontario has expanded the Expression of Interest system by including Masters Graduate and Ph.D. Graduate streams.
The three immigration streams under Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program that uses an EOI system are:
- International Student;
- Foreign Worker;
- In-Demand Skills.
Now, the province has added two more OINP streams in the new EOI system. These are Masters Graduate and P.h.D Graduate streams. So, graduates with job offers in Ontario can register their profile in the EOI under these two streams.
What is the Expression of Interest system?
EOI is a points-based system. In this system, candidates are ranked based on the points they obtain through labor market and human capital factors. Many other Canadian provinces are already using this system for the immigration process.
This new system has replaced the previous one which was based on the first-come-first-served pattern. Immigration candidates believe that this new Expression of Interest system would be “fairer”. And candidates would not have to face technical difficulties like they did in the previous system.
EOI candidates get points based on the province’s scoring matrix. And then, they receive a rank as per the points they score.
How EOI has changed the immigration process?
Earlier, candidates could apply to the base streams of the OINP only when the province opened the application window. And the application system was highly competitive as the registration window opened only for a few minutes.
Thus, people experienced technical difficulties due to slow internet connection or other things.
Now, immigration candidates can register their profile anytime in the EOI pool. And then, Ontario will issue invitations to the highest-scoring candidates.
However, an EOI registration does not mean that candidates will surely receive invitations. It will depend on the candidate’s profile which will be assessed as per Ontario labor market needs.
The EOI registration has a validity period of 12 months. It will be invalid after 12 months and will be deleted automatically if a candidate does not receive an invitation.
How to register an EOI?
First, a candidate has to create a profile through the OINP’s e-Filing Portal. Then the applicant must ensure that he or she meets the eligibility conditions for his or her immigration stream.
A candidate can register only one profile at one time. He or she can update the EOI profile to provide the current information.
