Newfoundland & Labrador invites candidates in the latest draw, i.e., on May 1, Newfoundland and Labrador held its fourth provincial immigration draw of 2026. In total, 190 candidates were invited to apply.
The province issued invitations through two programs: the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP) and the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP).
Details Of The Latest Draw
Most of the invitations in this round were issued through the NLPNP.
| Program | Invitations Issued |
| NLPNP | 157 |
| AIP | 33 |
A large share, i.e., 82.6% of the invitations went to NLPNP candidates.
Unlike some other provinces, Newfoundland and Labrador does not share which specific NLPNP streams were used in the draw.
This draw had the lowest number of invitations issued so far in 2026.
It also continues a pattern seen this year. Each new draw has had fewer invitations than the one before it. However, the number of AIP invitations has stayed the same in the last two draws, with 33 invitations each time.
Comparison With Earlier Draws
The table below shows how this draw compares to earlier rounds in 2026:
| Date Of Draw | Total Number Of Invitations Issued | Number Of Invitations Issued By Program |
| April 13, 2026 | 210 | NLPNP: 177 AIP: 33 |
| March 30, 2026 | 245 | NLPNP: 209 AIP: 36 |
| March 6, 2026 | 445 | NLPNP: 362 AIP: 83 |
So far this year, the province has issued 1,090 invitations in total across both programs.
Out of these, 905 invitations (about 83%) were sent through the NLPNP. The remaining 185 invitations were issued under the AIP.
In 2026, the province has held more draws compared to the same time period in 2025.
Between January 1 and May 1, 2025, Newfoundland and Labrador held only one draw. That draw took place on April 3 and invited 256 candidates in total, i.e., 206 through the NLPNP and 50 through the AIP.
This means that the number of invitations issued during the same period in 2026 is much higher. Overall, there has been a 325.8% increase compared to last year.
How Can Candidates Be Selected?
Since February 2025, both the NLPNP and AIP have used an Expression of Interest (EOI) system.
Under most streams, candidates need a valid job or job offer to apply.
To enter the pool, candidates must submit an EOI form. This form includes details about:
- Occupation
- Educational background
- Language ability
- Plans to live in the province
The Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism (OIM) reviews all EOIs. It then invites the strongest candidates to apply.
The OIM may give priority to candidates in the following areas:
- Health occupations: These roles are often selected due to ongoing worker shortages.
- Rural sales and service jobs: Jobs outside St. John’s may receive more attention due to hiring needs.
- Rural and regional employment: Jobs in smaller communities are important for local growth.
- Underrepresented occupations in NL: Jobs in business, finance, science, and trades may be selected to support economic growth.
- Reliable employers: Employers with good records and strong hiring needs may be given preference.
- Long-term retention potential: Candidates who show signs of staying in the province may have better chances.
- NL post-secondary graduates: Graduates with local education and relevant skills may be prioritized.
- Francophone immigration goals: Candidates who support French-speaking communities may be selected.
- Strong settlement support: Candidates may be chosen if employers or communities offer good support systems.
What Happens After Receiving An Invitation?
After receiving an invitation, the next steps depend on the program.
For NLPNP candidates, the applicant must submit a full application.
For AIP candidates, the employer usually completes the next step.
In both cases, the full application must be submitted within 60 days.
After submission, the application is reviewed as part of the normal assessment process.
EOI profiles stay active in the pool for up to 12 months. If not selected within that time, they expire.
