Canada has recently made changes to its travel rules that previously allowed Canadians traveling from South Africa to Canada to enter Canada without any COVID-19 test. Now, after the changes have been made Canada will not allow Canadians flying from Soth Africa to enter Canada without A COVID-19 test.
The citizens of Canada and also the permanent residents will have to get a test done before the departure, only they meet the following requirements. You can check these requirements on the government website too:
- Negative COVID-19 certificate required that is a molecular test in any South African verified laboratory with 48 hours of departure or a positive result starting 14 to 80 days before taking off.
- Flight before December 13th, that goes from Johannesburg or Cape town to Frankfurt, Germany.
- Travelling to Frankfurt airport by transiting on direct Lufthansa or a flight to Canada.
The changes were made by the government of Canada on an evening on Saturday when Canadians discussed the new travel restrictions. There was a lot of opinion from Canadians who said that traveling and getting tested in a third country was one of the major reasons that stopped them from returning home.
These restrictions were implied as soon as the new virus was discovered, the Omicron, a new variant of the COVID-19. Until now, the list of the country banned from entering Canada is 10 in number. These are:
- Zimbabwe
- Nigeria
- Egypt
- Nambia
- Lesotho
- Eswatini
- Mozambique
- Botswana
- Malawi
- South Africa
The minister of transport, Omar Alghabra had tweeted on Friday about the visual guidance and other flow charts that announced the new travel measures.
It does not matter if a traveler has been vaccinated or not, a Canadian citizen or a permanent residence who is returning home from any of these abovementioned countries shall get themselves tested and go into isolation as soon as they land. The test will be taken on the arrival of the traveler in the airport itself and then on the 8th day of isolation.
Travelers from the rest of the countries (except for the U.S) will have to get tested on arrival and quarantine themselves until they get the report that is negative. If unfortunately, the result comes positive then the traveler will have to be quarantined for at least 10 days for max.
All of the other travelers who will land in Canada unvaccinated and come from anywhere else in the world shall be required to quarantine themselves for 14 days.
