As more foreign nationals turn to artificial intelligence (AI) tools for answers about Canadian immigration, many are unknowingly receiving outdated or inaccurate information.
Here’s a list of Canadian immigration questions that AI got wrong.
So, without further ado, let us begin!
Can I Increase My CRS Score With A Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)?
AI Answer – Incorrect (Outdated Information)
The bot claimed: “Yes, you can receive CRS points for a valid job offer supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), but certain conditions must be met.”
It went on to describe that a job offer could add either 50 or 200 points under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) and detailed the eligibility requirements for those job offers.
Correct Answer:
You cannot.
That information is now outdated. Express Entry candidates no longer receive CRS points for having a valid job offer, even if it’s backed by an LMIA.
This change was announced in late 2024 and officially implemented on March 25, 2025. Although IRCC described this as a “temporary” measure, there has been no update on when, or if, it will be reversed.
What Are The Current Categories For Category-Based Express Entry Draws?
AI Answer – Incorrect (Outdated Information)
The AI began by explaining what category-based selection draws are and then listed six eligible categories as of 2025:
- Healthcare occupations
- Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) occupations
- Trade occupations
- Transport occupations
- Agriculture and Agri-food occupations
- French-language proficiency
Correct Answer:
This list contains several inaccuracies. The correct categories are:
- Healthcare and social services (updated from “Healthcare”)
- STEM occupations
- Trade occupations
- Agriculture and Agri-food occupations
- French-language proficiency
- Education (new category added)
Thus, the Transport category was removed, and the changes came into effect on February 27, 2025.
How Many Fields Of Study Qualify For Post-Graduation Work Permits (PGWP)?
AI Answer – Incorrect (Outdated Information)
The AI stated that there is no specific number of eligible fields, since eligibility depends on whether a program’s Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) code appears on the government’s approved list.
It claimed that as of July 4, there were 920 eligible fields of study.
Correct Answer:
There are currently 1,107 educational programs recognized as PGWP-eligible.
IRCC last updated this list in July 2025, when it announced that the removal of some programs from eligibility would be postponed until early 2026.
Which Provinces And Territories Have Received Increases In PNP Nominations So Far?
AI Answer – Incorrect (Outdated Information)
The AI listed the following provinces as having received increased allocations under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP):
- Alberta
- Saskatchewan
- Newfoundland and Labrador
- New Brunswick
Correct Answer:
That list was incomplete. As of now, the following provinces and territories have received increased allocations:
- British Columbia
- Saskatchewan
- Manitoba
- Alberta
- Newfoundland and Labrador
- New Brunswick
- Yukon
- Northwest Territories
As we discuss some of the Canadian immigration questions that AI got wrong, let us move on to the next question.
Are Canada’s Home Care Worker Pilots Currently Open For Applications?
AI Answer – Incorrect (Outdated Information)
The bot said the Home Care Worker Immigration Pilots opened on March 31, but warned that application caps “may already have been reached.” It also mentioned that the stream for applicants “not working in Canada” would open later.
Correct Answer:
Both Home Care Worker Pilot streams are closed – each reached its intake cap on the same day they opened.
Moreover, the claim that the “not working in Canada” stream will open later is false. While the government initially said the stream would open in the future, as of September 29, IRCC officially listed the stream as closed, with no indication it will reopen.
How Often Does IRCC Hold General Express Entry Draws?
AI Answer – Incorrect (Outdated Information)
The AI said there is “no fixed schedule,” but added that “general draws are usually held every two weeks.”
Correct Answer:
That is misleading. IRCC has not conducted a general Express Entry draw since April 23, 2024.
While draws historically occurred biweekly, recent months have seen only PNP-specific, Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and category-based draws with no general draws at all.
Which Countries Have A Maximum Age Of 30 Under The International Experience Canada (IEC) Program?
AI Answer – Incorrect (Outdated Information)
The bot listed the following countries as having a maximum participation age of 30:
- Andorra
- Belgium
- Hong Kong
- Iceland
- Japan
- Luxembourg
- Netherlands
- Sweden
Correct Answer:
Luxembourg should not be included in that list.
While the age limit was indeed 30 in the past, it was raised to 35 on July 26, 2024.
All the other listed countries remain correct.
Can I Sponsor My Spouse For Permanent Residence If I Live In Quebec?
AI Answer – Incorrect (Outdated Information)
The AI answered that spousal sponsorship applications are still being accepted, even for Quebec residents, although it did mention Quebec’s temporary cap on family sponsorship applications between June 26, 2024, and June 25, 2026.
It added that applications “may still be accepted until the cap is reached.”
Correct Answer:
That information is now outdated. Quebec reached its spousal sponsorship cap on July 9, 2025.
Any non-exempt sponsorship undertakings submitted up to July 25, 2026 will be returned without processing, and all fees refunded.
What’s The Current Processing Time For A Start-Up Visa (SUV) Application?
AI Answer – Incorrect (Outdated Information)
The AI claimed that the processing time for the Start-Up Visa (SUV) program is around 53 months, and added that the duration could vary depending on the applicant’s country of residence.
Correct Answer:
According to IRCC’s current data, the processing time exceeds 10 years as of now.
Furthermore, IRCC does not provide country-specific processing times for SUV applications. The long delays are due to high backlogs and the complexity of the program.
The last question among the list of Canadian immigration questions that AI got wrong is given below.
How Many Draws Has Prince Edward Island Held Under Its PNP In 2025?
AI Answer – Incorrect (Outdated Information)
The AI responded that the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) had conducted seven draws as of October 2025.
Correct Answer:
That is inaccurate. Prince Edward Island has conducted 10 draws as of October 2025.
Methodology
To conduct this test, ChatGPT-4o was asked 18 immigration-related questions and instructed to keep responses brief and factual.
Out of those 18, 11 answers were found to be inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading.
Moreover, it’s worth noting that large language model (LLM) chatbots like ChatGPT do not always produce consistent results. Their responses can differ between users and even between repeated queries, meaning the accuracy of the information may vary.
Why You Should Double-Check Immigration Information?
While AI tools can be useful for quick answers, they are not reliable substitutes for verified immigration information. Chatbots often generate responses based on past data, which means they may miss recent policy updates or misrepresent government programs.
You should never make immigration decisions based solely on what an AI chatbot says. Always cross-check details on official IRCC sources and, when possible, seek guidance from a licensed immigration representative.
When You Might Consider An Immigration Representative?
You’re not legally required to hire a representative, but a qualified consultant or lawyer can offer several advantages, such as:
- Recommending the best pathways to permanent residence based on your individual profile.
- Identifying potential issues or risks that might cause delays or refusals.
- Ensuring your application is complete and compliant before submission.
- Submitting your application and handling communication with IRCC on your behalf.
If you decide to use a representative, you must declare it in your application.
Both paid and unpaid representatives must be declared to IRCC. Paid representatives must be licensed by the appropriate regulatory body.
Thus, AI chatbots have become increasingly popular for immigration-related advice, but this experiment clearly shows their limitations. Moreover, immigration law and policy change frequently and what may have been accurate information a few months ago can quickly become obsolete.
For the most reliable, up-to-date guidance, always consult official government resources or a qualified immigration professional before making major decisions about your move to Canada.
