Claresholm announces key sectors for a new PR pathway. The town is participating in Canada’s Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP) and has outlined its boundaries, which include the nearby hamlet of Granum and the town of Stavely, covering a 26-kilometre radius.
As part of this federal immigration initiative, Claresholm is set to welcome skilled foreign workers through an employer-driven model. To qualify, candidates must secure a valid job offer from an employer designated by the community and receive a formal endorsement.
Under RCIP guidelines, each participating town or city is permitted to name up to five priority sectors that align with local labor needs and economic development plans. Claresholm has now officially identified its priority sectors and associated National Occupation Classification (NOC) codes, allowing potential candidates and employers to plan accordingly.

Additionally, the Sales and Services sector will be limited to just five of the total 30 slots, ensuring a balanced distribution among all five identified sectors.
Why Priority Sectors Are Important?
To be considered under the RCIP, foreign nationals must not only have a valid job offer from a designated employer but must also ensure that both the job and the employer fall under Claresholm’s priority sectors. Moreover, only businesses in these sectors are eligible for designation under the program.
Beyond the employment criteria, candidates must also meet several other eligibility conditions, such as having sufficient work experience, meeting language benchmarks, having the required education, and showing proof of settlement funds.
About the RCIP Initiative
The Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP) is a five-year federal program launched in 2025 to help small and rural Canadian communities address persistent labor shortages by attracting skilled foreign workers.
These pilots are specifically designed to support community-driven immigration solutions. Moreover, successful RCIP programs may serve as the blueprint for permanent immigration streams in the future.
Also, as of now, several communities participating in the RCIP and the FCIP have revealed their own sector priorities. These include:
- Timmins
- Brandon
- Sault Ste. Marie
- North Bay
- Thunder Bay
- North Okanagan-Shuswap
In addition, with 14 communities officially part of the RCIP, others are expected to announce their respective sectors and eligible job titles in the coming months.
