On November 30th a total of 89 professionals in the tech industry were invited to apply for a provincial nomination by British Columbia.
The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) is a stream that is issued.
The immigration pathway is economically inclined and used by the province of British Columbia to bring in professionals who are high-demand and experienced. The program gives individuals who decide to live and work in the British Columbia province.
Through the British, Columbia Tech draws new immigrants are expected to meet the eligibility criteria to any one of the British Columbia Express Entry System and Skills Immigration Programs. Both of these programs come under the Skills and Immigration Registration System (SIRS).
The common base score to get selected to apply for a provincial nomination was 78 and it was further divided into Skilled Workers and Internation Graduate categories respectively.
A timeline of 30 days is issued to apply for the stream. To apply for a PNP almost 11,000 invitations have been issued to newcomers by British Columbia in 2021.
BC PNP Tech program
In May 2017, the BC PNP Tech was introduced as a pilot program following the provincial labor market study. According to the study conducted it was found out that British Columbia’s technology industry had a scarcity of professionals. Since the project was successful, it was meant to become a permanent program. It is created and designed in such a way that it calls in more candidates and chooses foreign professionals who will not be accessible easily nearby.
The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program is a pathway that attracts the technical workers who are in demand and international graduate students. For this, the candidates who want to apply will first have to register themselves in one of the already existing provincial nominee programs and have an employment offer of at least a year in any one of the 29 mentioned occupations that will enable a candidate to apply.
There are other BC PNP streams that offer employment under the BC PNP Tech program that must have at least an experience of one year and 120 days remaining when applying to the BC PNP. It must also be a full-time opportunity from an employee who is verified and valid in British Columbia.
The top-scoring candidates in the draw that are held weekly get invitations upon meeting all the eligibility criteria via British Columbia’s Tech program.
Once the invited candidates fill the form and complete the application process the processing time will take around two to three months.
If everything goes smoothly and the candidate is selected then, they shall be granted a nomination confirmation certificate that will become handy while applying for a permanent residency by IRCC. This Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada come under the Provincial Nominee Program.
An automatic 600 points will be collected and added to the candidate’s CRS score (Comprehensive Ranking System) and have a high chance of getting an ITA for Canadian PR status by Express Entry System.
