IRCC conducted this week’s third Express Entry draw for healthcare professions. 3,600 ITAs were sent out by the department in a recent selection draw for healthcare jobs. To be qualified, candidates had to receive a minimum of 431 points on the CRS.
This draw came following this week’s first two draws. On October 24, the first one was held only for the Provincial Nominee Program, and invitations were sent to 1,548 candidates. Candidates have to have a minimum CRS score of 776 in order to be considered.
Candidates under the province Nominee Program (PNP) have a higher minimum CRS score since those who obtain a province nomination under the Express Entry system are given a significant advantage. A 600 CRS point increase is automatically granted to such nominees.
The selection procedure was category-based and targeted candidates who could demonstrate fluency in French in a follow-up draw that happened on October 25. In order to be eligible for this draw, candidates had to have a minimum CRS score of 486; hence, invitations to apply were sent to 300 individuals.

Upfront medical examinations are no longer a necessity for Express Entry candidates
With effect from October 1st, 2018, there has been a substantial modification to the Express Entry procedure. Candidates for Express Entry are no longer required to take the Immigrant Medical Examination (IME) in advance of submitting their application to the IRCC for permanent residence.
Candidates can now upload a blank document in the Express Entry profile builder, even though the medical exam is still a required part of the application procedure. The IME will not be required right away; instead, instructions for the medical examination will be sent by the IRCC later on in the application process.
It’s crucial to remember that those who are presently residents of Canada or who have previously done an IME as part of an IRCC application are not required to undergo another IME.
Second Express Entry draw of the week – About Express Entry
The Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and the Canadian Experience Class are the three main immigration streams that Express Entry is used to handle.
These initiatives use the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to evaluate applicants according to a range of human capital components. These variables include age, education level, occupation, work experience, and language ability.
When calculating the sum of their individual scores for each attribute, a candidate can receive a maximum of 1,200 points. It’s difficult to get this highest score, though, and most applicants usually end up with something between 350 and 550. It is noteworthy that CRS scores can, on occasion, exceed or fall outside of this range based on the particular Express Entry draw.
In essence, it’s primarily the high-scoring candidates who are more likely to receive ITAs for permanent residency status in Canada.
Category-based selection – An overview
In May this year, the IRCC introduced category-based draws within the Express Entry system. The IRCC has designated new categories for the year 2023.
Interestingly, these category-based draws differ from the typical Express Entry draws, as they do not primarily rely on the CRS score to determine who receives ITAs.
The introduction of these category-based draws became possible through a legislation passed in June 2022, granting the immigration minister the authority to invite candidates who can contribute to Canada’s economic needs or promote the use of the French language in the country.
As per this new system, the IRCC established six draw categories for Express Entry candidates in May. To be eligible for consideration, candidates must either demonstrate proficiency in the French language or possess work experience in specific occupations.
- Agriculture and agri-food
- Transport
- Healthcare
- Trades
- STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) professions
As part of the Express Entry Category-based selections, Canada has held ten drawings since June. As a result, IRCC has issued 10,000 ITAs in total. It’s crucial to remember that each and every applicant who got these invites was already a member of the Express Entry Pool.
