The super visa is a temporary visa that permits parents and grandparents of permanent residence and citizens of Canada who want to drive their parents and grandparents to Canada. It allows several entries into Canada for up to 10 years.
Significant reforms to the super visa that is affected from today, 4 July. The following changes are included in the super visa:
Canada has exceeded the period of stay for super visa holders to five years every year.
People who currently have super visas have the possibility of extending their stay for up to 2 years during their stay in Canada. Super visa holders residing in Canada can stay for seven straight years after the extension.
International medical insurance companies will provide insurance cover for super visa applicants very soon in the near future. The immigration minister of Canada conserves the authorization to elevate.
Currently, those applicants who hold the old super visa are allowed to live in Canada for up to two years each arrival in Canada. Only Canadian insurance providers are allowed to provide medical coverage to the super visa holder. These changes were proposed and supported by all political parties in Canada.
Parents and grandparents are able to live in Canada for five succeeding years devoid of renewing their visas. Super visa holders are also allowed to purchase medical insurance from other countries. As per Seeback, families can save thousands of dollars per year by the introduction of foreign medical insurance. Additionally, Seeback has confidence that the government structure for foreign insurance companies will claim medical costs if super visa holders get sick.
A super visa is provided as a replacement for the PGP (Parents and grandparents program). PGP applicants can get permanent residence status through this. The PGP is very popular, but the request for a sponsor surpasses the number of places available.
If the IRCC received approximately 200,000 sponsor requests for a given period, the immigration spots available were only 35,000. For this reason, IRCC has temporarily opened an expression of interest window for PGPs and then conducted a lottery to increase requests to apply for permanent residency under PGP.
There is no lottery to obtain a super visa, which gives families more certainty. The processing of a super visa can take months but the processing of a PGP can take years. Finally, the super visa holder can stay longer in Canada and they don’t need to renew their visa until the validity period has passed.
