In 2020, Canada increased the express entry application period from 60 days to 90 because of the COVID-19 lockdown in the world. Several immigration candidates could not submit their required documents such as biometrics because of coronavirus-related disruptions. Therefore, the Government of Canada increased the application period to 90 days to support such candidates.
However, recently, Canada announced to get back to the usual 60 days period. This means that applicants will now get 60 calendar days to apply to the immigration ministry.
The 60-day time period will enable IRCC to process more immigration applications. And as the Canadian government is set to welcome masses of immigrants this year, it is crucial to reduce the processing times.
However, candidates who are still affected by disruptions caused by COVID-19 need not worry as the federal government will enact special measures for them.
Please note: IRCC has excluded candidates who have received ITAs before June 20, 2021, from this measure. So, they should not panic as they still have 90 days to submit their complete Permanent Residence application.
To sum up, in the subsequent express entry draws, candidates will have to apply for Canada PR within 60 days.
