On 18 January, the province of British Columbia issued a provincial nomination invitation to 91 migrants related to the tech industry.
These invitations belonged to the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program Tech that comes in BC PNP.
The particular pathway is responsible for bringing in professional skilled workers that are in high demand in the economic labor market of Canada’s British Columbia province. Through this program, the skilled migrants are able to work and live in the province of British Columbia by attaining a permanent residency status.
There are two categories via which the immigrant candidates are called for these are Skills immigration and British Columbia Express Entry. The candidates must meet the eligibility criteria of any one of the above-mentioned streams. Both of the streams in the category are managed through another system called the SIRS, the full form of which is the Skills and Immigration Registration System.
The invitations that came through this category mostly belonged to the sub-categories of international worker and Skilled workers, along with which it also demanded a minimum score of 80.
The candidate who has received the invitation shall have a time frame of one month to apply for the Provincial nomination.
British Columbia Provincial Nominee Tech program
Launched in the year 2017, in May, BC PNP Tech was initially a trial project that was to analyze the labor market study of Canada, particularly the province of British Columbia’s sector of technology. The study found out that one province of BC was going through a huge challenge which was the access to talent. Once the project program was successful, the province soon included it as part of the permanent program.
British Columbia PNP Tech aims to attract skilled professionals who expertise in the Tech industry to come to the province of British Columbia and continue to live and work here as a professional foreign employee. If there is no talent nearby.
In other words, the BC PNP is a speed-up pathway for immigration to Canada that is designed for professional workers and also international scholars who are in demand according to their skillset. For this, the potential immigrant candidate must be registered in any one of the streams for provincial immigration in BC and must also have an employment offer from any valid recruiter from the province for at least 12 months. Take note that this employment offer should be in an occupation that comes under the list of the 29 eligible occupations that were announced by the province to qualify for the stream.
It must also be taken care that the job offers in order to get qualified for the BC PNP Tech should be for a minimum of 12 months, which is not the usual case in the British Columbia PNP. The other eligibility requirements are, that there must be 120 days remaining when the candidate is applying for the BC PNP and also they must have a full-time job offer from an employer in the province.
The candidates are chosen according to the score that they get and the invitations for the tech programs are sent to those who have the highest score also compatible according to the eligibility criteria.
The nominated candidates are requested to submit their application that is completely filled and once that is done, there is a processing time of 60-90 days.
Once the procedure is followed and criteria levels are matched, then the candidate shall be awarded a certificate of nomination by the province. This certification is extremely helpful in fetching the Canadian permanent residency status from the Immigration department of Canada that is IRCC.
Candidates chosen under the Provincial Nominee Class by the province of British Columbia get an additional 600 CRS score and the probability of getting an ITA (Invitation to Apply) increases considerably. Thus, it is easier for the selected candidate to apply for a Canadian permanent residency via the Express Entry pool.
