Canada’s first Express Entry draw of 2023 and since November 23, saw 5500 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) issued.
IRCC sent invitations to 5,500 applicants with a comprehensive ranking of at least 507 under the CRS score. The FSWP – (Federal Skilled Worker Program) and CEC – (Canadian Experience Class) were only two of the programs that were looking for competent candidates. The basis of all these programs is the Express Entry system.
ITAs were awarded in greater numbers in this draw than in those held since July of last year when Express Entry commenced. More than 750 applicants were invited rather than 4,750 in the draw on November 23. Since September 28, the CRS score has been higher than ever.
Express Entry draw in 2022
Express Entry had a remarkable year last year. A ministerial directive states that 46,538 Express Entry applications were received during the 23 drawing rounds in 2022. Between January and July, participants in Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) participated in these draws. The Express Entry program for all programs was suspended as of December 2020 and has not been in operation for over 18 months. A backlog in applications occurred because of COVID-19-related travel restrictions. Invitations to apply (ITAs) were sent only to PNP or CEC candidates during this time. The IRCC also ceased doing lotteries for the CEC in September 2021. Additionally, in September 2021, the IRCC suddenly stopped draws for the CEC. From July to December of this year, lottery draws were held exclusively for all programs.
Compared to other Express Entry draws, the selection criteria for the most recent had the lowest CRS score requirement of 491.
Changes are coming to Express Entry
A number of changes to Express Entry were prepared by the IRCC during the second half of 2022 in preparation for the anticipated changes in 2023. NOC 2021, for example, was implemented by IRCC as an improved version of NOC 2016. Using the National Occupation Classification (NOC) system, Express Entry candidates are classified according to their profession and skill level.
The IRCC has shifted from categorizing skills according to 0-D levels to categorizing them according to education, experience, training, and responsibilities (TEER). The NOC 2016 skill levels 0-E have been modified, resulting in the development of five new TEERS. As a result, 16 additional occupations qualify for CECs and FSWPs managed by Express Entry.
Candidate profiles submitted to the Express Entry pool could be unilaterally changed to the new NOC 2021 if they wish. IRCC profiles must be updated with updated positions (jobs). Those who intend to be considered for an invitation to apply must meet the necessary requirements.
The Immigration Levels Plan 2023–2025, released on November 1st, also states that Canada would boost the number of applicants approved through Express Entry programs. Through Express Entry, 82,880 immigrants will have received permanent resident status in Canada by the end of 2023. One-fifth of Canada’s overall aim will be attained with the admission of 109,020 permanent citizens in 2024 and 114,000 in 2025. As a result of the persistent labor shortage in Canada, these higher goals emphasize the significance of economic immigration to the country. Immigrants are responsible for about 75% of Canada’s population growth and 90% of its labor force growth.
Express Entry – What is it?
In Canada, applications for permanent residence under specific economic immigration categories are managed using the Express Entry online immigration system. One of the most well-liked immigration procedures in the world, Express Entry was launched by the Canadian government in 2015 and has since gained popularity. The process is designed to be fast and efficient and allows applicants to submit their profiles and documents online.
To determine if a person is eligible to immigrate to Canada, the Express Entry system evaluates their profile. This evaluation results in a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score that ranks applicants in order of performance. Canada’s permanent residency program will be open to those with the highest scores. Applicants who are invited to apply must then submit an application package including supporting documentation. According to the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, processing times for applications will differ.
