Saskatchewan started 2020 with two draws, invited 542 Candidates

Saskatchewan is an appropriate choice for job seekers. The province has a booming economy due to the presence of the oil sector, potash mine, natural gas, and a strong agricultural industry. Also, employment opportunities are abundant in this province. It is estimated that Saskatchewan has an unemployment rate of less than 4 percent, which is said to be the lowest in Canada.  In the first draw of 2020, Saskatchewan has invited 308 immigration candidates through its Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP). While the second draw resulted in 234 invitations issued to candidates to apply for permanent residence. 

Who is Invited?

SINP has welcomed those candidates who have profiles in both Occupations In-Demand and the Express Entry streams. With the help of this program, foreign nationals working in Canada, entrepreneurs, skilled workers, and experienced farmers are permitted to apply for provincial nomination. 

How does SINP work?

The first step for SINP is to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to show your interest in settling in the province of Saskatchewan. Thereafter, the EOI profiles of candidates are reviewed by the province. And on the basis of the profile submitted, candidates are given a score out 0f 100. This scoring system is administered by the subcategory of SNIP- International Skilled Worker (ISW).  ISW has a Points Assessment Grid in which the scores are based on parameters such as age, language proficiency, education, skilled work experience and connections to Saskatchewan. After that, the highest-scoring candidates are sent invitations to apply for the provincial nomination. Please note: Only those candidates are invited who have a work experience of a minimum of one year in any of the eligible skilled occupations.

International Skilled Worker: A category of SINP

Through its International Skilled Worker category, SINP allows skilled workers to apply for the provincial nomination. The province selects foreign nationals, who have the capacity to fill the labor market gaps, through one of the following three sub-categories:

• Employment Offer sub-category
• Saskatchewan Express Entry sub-category
• Occupations In-Demand sub-category

• Candidates invited through Express Entry stream:

The Express Entry sub-category is associated with the Express Entry system which is managed by the federal government. In the last two draws, SINP has invited a total of 267 candidates belonging to the Express Entry stream. The invitees already had profiles in the express entry pool. If the candidates having profiles in the express entry pool submitted the EOI for Saskatchewan separately, they needed to have a minimum score of 69 on the Points Assessment Grid in order to have received an invitation.  Candidates in the express entry pool will get 600 points extra added to their CRS scores if they successfully secure nomination from the province of Saskatchewan. 

• Occupations In-demand sub-category:

Those candidates who do not have a profile in the express entry pool are permitted to apply under this category. Recently, with the help of two draws, Saskatchewan has issued 275 invitations to the occupations In-demand candidates. They required a score of 69 points in the Points Assessment Grid in order to be invited by Saskatchewan.  Earlier, the SINP had limited occupations listed under it. However, in 2019, Saskatchewan created an Excluded Occupations List in which the number of eligible occupations has increased from 19 to more than 200 for both the sub-categories. In the first draw, invitations went to immigration candidates in 82 occupations. And, the second draw invited candidates belonging to a number of 65 occupations namely professors, human resource professionals, financial managers, and others. Saskatchewan is keen on increasing the number of nominations it can issue to the candidates. Last year, it has requested the federal government for the same.
