Ontario Issues 954 NOIs In The First Tech Draw Of 2020

Are you an IT professional waiting for an opportunity to immigrate to Canada? Your work experience in a targeted technical field can be highly favourable for you. With the help of Tech draws conducted by the Province of Ontario, you can secure a chance to immigrate to Canada.  Ontario selects candidates who have the required skills and experience to apply for a provincial nomination through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP).  The OINP has the following three immigration categories:
  • Human Capital Category
  • Business Category
  • Employer Job Offer Category
In the first draw of January, Ontario issued invitations to candidates belonging to French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream. Recently, OINP has conducted a tech draw which led to 954 invitations issued to express entry candidates through Human Capital Priorities Stream.  Express Entry candidates who have received a Notification of Interest (NOI) by the province of Ontario in this tech draw had Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores ranging between 460 and 472. Further, if they manage to secure a provincial nomination from Ontario, 600 extra points will be added to their CRS scores. Eventually, this will increase their chance to get an invitation to apply for permanent residence in the next Express Entry draw. 

What is a Tech Draw?

Ontario faces an acute labour shortage in the technological sector. Last year, the immigration ministry of Ontario introduced Tech Draws that fall under the Human Capital Priorities Stream, in order to have an influx of immigrants with technological skills.  Through a tech draw, the OINP searches for IT professionals who fulfill the requirements of the Human Capital Priorities Stream and have a minimum one year of work experience in one of the targeted occupations.

The Human Capital Priorities Stream targets the following occupations in the tech draws:

  • Computer Engineers, NOC 2147

  • Computer and Information systems managers, NOC 0213

  • Database analysts and Data administrators, NOC 2172

  • Software Engineers and Designers, NOC 2173

  • Computer programmers and interactive media developers, NOC 2174

  • Web designers and Developers, NOC 2175
