Canada has always been an immigrant-friendly country. Even during the times of the COVID-19 pandemic, the government of Canada has taken several measures to support immigrants.
The country has held Express Entry, and Provincial Nominee Program draws despite the travel restrictions. Also, the federal government has set higher immigration levels for the upcoming years.
Immigration is a vital factor for the economic development of Canada. And it has become even more crucial now as the new immigrants will play a key role in economic revival.
Can candidates with approved PR visas travel to Canada?
Canada has travel restrictions in place for people coming from overseas. However, as of today, the government has allowed candidates with approved PR visas to enter the country.
So, if you have a valid COPR (Confirmation of Permanent Residence), you can now travel to Canada as there is no restriction with effect from 21st June.
The IRCC has issued 23,000 COPRs since the federal government announced travel restrictions in March 2020.
Is your COPR expired?
You cannot travel to Canada if your Confirmation of Permanent Residence has expired. COPRs have a validity of one year only. Some people could not travel to Canada because of the ban and in the meantime, their COPR expired. And as of now, people with invalid COPR are not eligible to enter the country.
The government will update guidelines on IRCC’s web page on how to get a new COPR. However, candidates will not have to restart their immigration process.
Please note: Do not book your flight to Canada if your COPR is not valid.
Travelers must follow COVID-19 safety guidelines
People coming to Canada have to follow health and safety guidelines. Travelers who are not fully vaccinated need to be quarantined for 14 days. However, people who have completed their vaccination process through government-approved vaccination do not need to undergo any mandatory quarantine.
