The Canadian government has declared that IRCC will restart biometrics collection for those who are seeking temporary residence and applying from within the country. Due to the closures and disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the IRCC implemented a temporary exemption policy on July 15, 2020. It was implemented on July 15, 2020, to allow individuals seeking temporary residence from within Canada to resume collecting biometrics.
IRCC’s press release specifically mentions five categories of applicants who are affected by this change:
- Those who are seeking to obtain a work permit or study permit.
- Individuals are the ones who submit applications for temporary resident permits.
- People who are seeking to obtain a visitor visa.
- Individuals who are seeking to prolong their stay in Canada as a student, visitors, or workers.
- Individuals making an application to reinstate their status as foreign workers, visitors, or students in Canada.
The IRCC claims that “certain temporary procedures for biometrics collecting” and “some exclusions for special instances” are still in effect despite this verdict.
