Canada has the highest proportion of immigrants who are refugees, family immigrants, and economic immigrants. Undoubtedly, the current economic situation is one of the most significant factors among the most prevalent causes of immigration. Depending on their employment history, education level, and financial situation, these immigrants may qualify for permanent residency.
The second-largest source of migrants in terms of the amount is made up of family members. Under this category, parents, kids, other relatives, and spouses of citizens of Canada and permanent residents have become qualified for sponsorship.
Refugees must be referred by the UNHCR – (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees), a licensed referral agency, or a private group in order to enter Canada.
A large number of immigrants arrive in Canada each year as a result of its economic immigration policy. Many people come to Canada as temporary foreign employees or international students, while others come without any prior Canadian experience. Following are a few of Canada’s most important immigration programs for bringing immigrants to the country.
Express Entry
FSWP – (the Federal Skilled Workers Program), CEC – (Canadian Experience Classes), and FSTP – (Federal Skilled Trades Programs) each use the Express Entry application management system.
Federal Skilled Worker Programs are popular among applicants without work or education experience in Canada. The following requirements must be met to be eligible for the FSWP:
- The experience must be at least one year relevant to the job
- As measured by the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB), an English or French language test score of at least 7.
- The minimum requirement is an academic qualification.
- In the absence of a valid Canadian job offer, you must show that you have the money.
- An FSWP score of 67 out of 100 is required.
The CEC – (Canadian Experience Class) was targeted at individuals who hold work experience in Canada. CEC applicants must meet the following requirements:
- The applicant must have been employed in Canada for at least one year in the past.
- Must have CLB score between 7 to 5 according to the requirement.
Use the Federal Skilled Trades Program, a designated path for skilled workers, to become a citizen of Canada. To apply for the FSTP, you must meet the requirements listed below:
- An experience of at least two years in a skilled trade.
- Reading, writing, and listening requires a CLB of at least 4 and 5 respectively.
- You must demonstrate your financial resources if you do not have a legitimate work offer from Canada.
- If you meet the requirements for one of these programs, your profile can only be submitted to the Express Entry system.
The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is the method Express Entry uses to rank candidates as part of the selection process. By using Express Entry draws, which occur roughly every two weeks, candidates who have scored the highest are invited to apply for Canadian permanent residency. When this happens, the highest-scoring candidates receive the Invitation to Apply (ITA).
If you receive an ITA, you can begin the formal application process for Canadian immigration. ITAs are valid for 60 days after receiving them.
PNP – Provincial Nominee Program
Almost all provinces and territories in Canada, except Quebec, which does not have a provincial nominee program. Nunavut, run its own provincial nominee programs (PNPs). PNPs help applicants position themselves so that they can achieve success in their countries of origin by allowing PNPs to be granted.
Express Entry monitors a number of PNPs. It is possible for Express Entry candidates to request a provincial nomination application. Candidates that are nominated will automatically have their score raised by 600 points. They have a very good chance of being awarded an ITA in the upcoming Express Entry draw.
Provincial Nominee Program applications are also managed by the province’s own application management system. It is not dependent on Express Entry. A PNP stream evaluation will be done by the province based on the requirements of your application. A letter of nomination will be sent to you, allowing you to apply for permanent residency at IRCC if you meet the requirements.
Work/study experience in Canada
Experience studying or working in Canada may improve your chances of accessing more Canadian immigration programs.
It is mandatory for any student who wishes to pursue their education in Canada to obtain a study permit. If a student already has a letter of acceptance from a Canadian university, they are eligible to apply for a student visa. It’s possible to enroll in courses in Canada if you have study permission. Furthermore, during specific academic breaks, full-time employment is permitted and part-time employment is permitted during the academic year.
In order to qualify for some immigration programs (DLI), you must have received your education in Canada from a designated learning institution. Once you have successfully completed the course, you will be eligible to apply for the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) offered by these DLIs, which will allow you to work in Canada for up to three years after you have completed the program.
In some cases, a work permit may be available to you. If you have completed your studies or are unable to pay your international student fees. The Canadian Government offers a wide range of work permit options, which include two different types of work permit schemes:
TFWP (Temporary Foreign Worker Program)
Obtaining a neutral or favorable Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is a prerequisite to receiving a work permit from your employer. As a condition of hiring a foreign worker, employers must be able to demonstrate to the Canadian government that they are not intending to displace local workers or bring down wages for them.
Global Talent Stream can be used as an example of a TFWP. This stream of accelerated work permit processing is based on the fact that you have an offer of employment or a job offer at a specific tech company.
IMP (International Mobility Program)
If an LMIA is not required, the job must be considered to be of significant benefit to Canada. If the job is covered by a reciprocal agreement or is considered to be of significant benefit to Canada, no LMIA is required. The IMP is generally used as a means of bringing foreign employees into Canada.
In Canada, those who wish to start their own business or work for themselves may be eligible for a major benefit work permit. It falls under the IMP category. If you want your business or self-employment activities to be recognized by the Canadian government. You will need to demonstrate how they will benefit the country’s economy, society, or culture. Due to the tight labor market in Canada, it can be difficult for employers to find qualified candidates to fill their positions. Immigrants are helping Canada’s economic prosperity in several ways.
