Canada Opened Doors To More Than 300,000 Immigrants In 2019

Canada is most receptive to immigrants among all the western nations. The country has a pleasant welcoming attitude. Since 1990, more than 6 million new immigrants have arrived in Canada. Continuing the trend, Canada welcomed 341,000 recent immigrants in 2019, exceeding its 2019-2021 Immigration Levels Plan. The Government of Canada has set the target in its Immigration Levels Plan for 2019-2021. The target was to welcome 330,800 newcomers in 2019. Clearly, 2019 has exceeded this figure by more than 10,000 immigrants.

A large number of immigrants arrived through the economic class:

The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) received 58 percent (197,890) of its new immigrants in the country through the economy class immigration programs. Another 27 percent (91,245) newcomers arrived through the Canada family sponsorship. While the remaining 15 percent of them immigrated to Canada under the refugee class.

India and China sourced maximum number of Immigrants to Canada:

Canada gets newcomers to apply for permanent residency from all over the world. However, a large number of immigrants arrive in Canada from India and China. The total number of immigrants that came from India in 2019 is approximately 86,000. While China accounted for a total of 30,260 immigrants who moved to Canada in 2019. The other major source countries of Canadian immigrants are the Philippines, the United States of America, Syria, Nigeria, Eritrea, South Korea, Pakistan, and Iran.

Ontario: First Choice of Canadian Immigrants

The province of Ontario is a popular choice among new immigrants. For its good infrastructure, employment opportunities, and a great living standard, Ontario tops the chart. Nearly 45 percent of newcomers moved to Ontario in 2019. This share has increased by 2 percent from 2018. British Columbia is the second in the list as 50,000 immigrants settled in British Columbia in 2019. Alberta takes the third position. A terrific record is set by Manitoba as its share increased by 24 percent compared to the 2018 share. Saskatchewan welcomed nearly 16,000 new immigrants. Nova Scotia and New Brunswick enjoyed an increase in share by 27 percent and 30 percent respectively. Yukon welcomed 400 newcomers signifying a rise by 24 percent.

Most Preferred Cities:

35 percent of the newcomers preferred to settle in the Greater Toronto Area. The GTA has a growing tech sector and it is widely known as an economic hub. This makes GTA the most preferred choice to immigrate. Vancouver also welcomed as many as 40,000 Canadian immigrants. The other two preferred cities in Canada by newcomers are Montreal and Calgary.

The government of Canada is keen on welcoming around 341,000 new immigrants in 2020, as per the 2019-2021 Immigration Levels Plan. The way the Canadian government is moving forward with high immigration targets, it is the best time to apply for Canadian permanent residence.
