Canada announces a new immigration partnership with Ukraine

Canada’s Immigration Minister has recently announced the establishment of a Mobility Working Group between Canada and Ukraine. The Canada-Ukraine partnership will go into effect only when the country lifts all the travel restrictions. So, post-coronavirus, the residents of Ukraine will find it simpler to immigrate to Canada. Through this partnership, it stands clear that Canada is looking to expand immigration. And the Mobility Working Group will help the governments of both countries to manage the migration practices with new insights. Further, it will provide better mobility opportunities to people living in Ukraine. Also, with the help of this partnership, Canada will be able to promote the economic class immigration programs in Ukraine. Marco Mendicino believes that this special partnership will deepen the ties between the two nations. In addition, Canada and Ukraine will also soon move in the direction of settling the Youth Mobility Agreement that will provide excellent work opportunities to the youth of both countries.

Canada and Ukraine strong ties

Canada and Ukraine have now completed 29 years of their diplomatic relations. And since 1992, both the nations have developed close ties. As of now, there are around 1.3 million people who are of Ukrainian descent in Canada. Also, the two nations enjoy a Free Trade Agreement that was established in 2017. Further, Canada has also committed to supporting Ukraine in terms of financial, security, non-lethal military, development, and humanitarian assistance. The budget set by Canada for this support is nearly $800 million.

Youth Mobility Agreement

With the support of the new Mobility Working Group, Canada and Ukraine will function together to establish a youth mobility agreement. This agreement will help the youth from both the nations to travel and find better work opportunities in the respective countries. Youth Mobility Agreements allows the youth between the age of 18 and 35 years to explore the labor market abroad and work there for a period of 12 months. Candidates get two chances to take part in the youth mobility agreement. So, this means that they can work for a maximum of 24 months. Canada has youth mobility agreements with several other countries like Germany, France, Spain, Italy, UK, and many more. Last year, Canada signed this mobility agreement with Italy. To conclude, the new Canada-Ukraine agreement will open up new opportunities to youth once the travel restrictions are removed.
