Northwest Territories gains more PR nominations, i.e., the Northwest Territories has secured an additional 47 nomination spaces under the Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP) for 2025.
With this increase, the territory’s total allocation now rises to 197, compared to the original 150 slots provided at the start of the year.
The Government of the Northwest Territories confirmed the adjustment in a news release issued on September 2, 2025.
These newly added slots are reserved for eligible candidates from the 2025 intake periods who were not selected earlier.
Applications will be assessed in order of work permit expiration dates, and qualified applicants will be informed by email before being added to the NTNP assessment queue.
“These additional 47 spaces will help address pressing labour shortages across essential industries,” said Caitlin Cleveland, Minister of Education, Culture and Employment, in the release.
Overview Of The NTNP
The Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP) offers three main application streams:
- Employer-Driven stream
- Francophone stream
- Business stream
Employer-Driven Stream Categories
The Employer-Driven stream is divided into three categories:
- Entry Level / Semi-Skilled Occupations
- Skilled Worker
- NWT Express Entry
Each stream and category has distinct eligibility requirements that both candidates and, in certain cases, employers must meet.
For the Employer-Driven and Francophone streams, applicants need a valid job offer from an employer in the Northwest Territories.
Unlike the Employer-Driven stream, which requires the employer to submit on behalf of the candidate, the Francophone and Business streams allow applicants to apply on their own.
For the Business stream, candidates must show plans to establish, purchase, or invest in a local business they will operate.
NTNP Intake Periods In 2025
For 2025, the NTNP held two formal intake windows:
- Intake period 1: February 27 – March 6, 2025
- Intake period 2: July 2 – July 9, 2025
Like many other provincial and territorial nominee programs, the NTNP faced a sharp reduction in its allocation this year, dropping from 300 nominations in 2024 to just 150 in 2025.
However, the Northwest Territories now joins other provinces and territories, including Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Saskatchewan, and Yukon, in successfully negotiating additional nomination spaces from the federal government.
