Three Canadian provinces, Ontario, British Columbia, and Quebec, issued the recent PNP draw results.
To promote immigration, both British Columbia and Ontario have established their own Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs). Introduced in 1998, PNPs were designed to distribute the benefits of immigration more evenly across regions of Canada that traditionally received fewer newcomers.
Provincial governments work in collaboration with IRCC on immigration matters. Each province and territory participating in the PNP is allocated a specific number of nominations by the IRCC. These provinces then select economic immigration candidates who are most likely to integrate successfully into Canada’s workforce.
Receiving a provincial nomination does not automatically grant permanent residency. However, it significantly strengthens an applicant’s case when they submit their final application to the IRCC. Notably, Express Entry candidates with a provincial nomination receive an additional 600 points in the CRS, greatly increasing their chances of receiving an ITA in a future Express Entry draw.
Quebec, on the other hand, operates differently as it does not participate in the PNP. Through a special agreement with the federal government, Quebec independently manages the selection of its economic immigration candidates. The province also sets its own targets for the number of immigrants it plans to welcome each year.
Provincial immigration results from September 14 to 20
Ontario
On September 17, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) issued invitations through its Master’s Graduate and PhD Graduate streams. A total of 194 invitations were sent to PhD applicants with scores of 45 or higher, while 1,249 Master’s graduate candidates with scores of 53 or above were also invited.
Additionally, on September 19, the province conducted another draw for the OINP’s Express Entry Human Capital Priorities stream. This targeted draw invited 1,424 candidates in “other priority occupations,” requiring a CRS score between 505 and 528 to qualify.
British Columbia
The BC PNP held draws on September 17, inviting more than 163 candidates. The main draw included candidates from the Entry-Level and Semi-Skilled, International Graduate, and Skilled Worker streams, requiring a minimum score of 128 for the Skilled Worker and International Graduate categories, including BC Express Entry applicants.
Candidates in the Entry-Level and Semi-Skilled stream needed a minimum score of 110.
Additionally, three targeted draws were held for Skilled Workers and International Graduates:
- 43 childcare candidates were invited with a minimum score of 83.
- 29 candidates in construction were selected with a minimum score of 89.
- 29 healthcare candidates were invited with a minimum score of 99.
Quebec
Quebec has announced the results of the September 5 selection draw for the Quebec Skilled Worker Program. Typically, the province reveals the outcomes after the draw takes place.
A minimum score of 575 points was required for candidates to qualify for permanent selection, and 1,417 individuals were invited to apply.
Additionally, all candidates were required to demonstrate oral proficiency in French at level 7 or higher, according to the Échelle québécoise des niveaux de compétence en français (Quebec’s scale for assessing French proficiency in adult immigrants) or an equivalent standard.
Applicants with job offers from outside the Greater Montreal area could also be considered for selection.
