Immigrants staying in Canada will get COVID-19 vaccines

Canada has started the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccination. And the Public Health Agency of Canada has stated that vaccines will be provided to everyone staying in Canada irrespective of his or her citizenship. So, if you are an immigrant in Canada but do not have the status of a permanent resident or a citizen, you are still eligible to get the coronavirus vaccination. As of now, Canada has approved two COVID-19 vaccines: the Pfitzer-BioNTech vaccine and the Moderna vaccine. The former one is for people who are above 16 years and the latter for individuals over age 18.

COVID-19 vaccination roll-out

Individuals over the age of 70, Indigenous people, healthcare workers, and residents of care homes will be prioritized for getting vaccinated in the initial distribution of vaccines. After the initial rollout, more vaccines will be available for the rest of the Candian population. Health care workers, people belonging to essential services, and residents of shared housing facilities who were left out in the first rollout will be prioritized in the next round. As per the research, Canada has already distributed nearly 935,700 doses of the COVID-19 vaccines by January 21st. The National Advisory Community on Immunization has suggested some recommendations for all nations to help them select people who should be prioritized for vaccination. All the Canadian provinces and territories are following guidelines set by the NACI. The NACI has included immigrants in its recommendations to provide vaccination to them. Since immigrants are at higher risk due to international travel and their occupations, they do need better access to COVID-19 vaccinations. Several provinces have already released their distribution plans for the vaccination. Both Quebec and Manitoba have stated that all immigrants will get vaccinated even if they are not permanent residents or citizens.
