In the past few days, Canada announced it will allow people with a Confirmation of Permanent Residence to enter the country.
However, post-announcement, several candidates with expired COPR got panicked. They had so many questions regarding their travel status. They were unsure about the validity of their PR status. IRCC has now provided new instructions for such people. The government has released the details on how approved permanent residents with expired documents can travel to Canada.
Thus, immigration candidates with an expired COPR should not be disappointed as they can get their documents renewed by following IRCC’s instructions.
How to move to Canada with expired COPR?
Currently, candidates with expired COPR should not book their flight tickets to Canada before they receive any communication from IRCC.
IRCC has stated that candidates whose COPR has expired will receive an email from the immigration department. If they want to immigrate to Canada, they must reply to the mail. IRCC might require a new medical certificate or some relevant updated information. If you do not respond to the requirements, IRCC will close your application file and you will have to restart the PR process.
So, if the immigration authorities have already contacted you and asked for new documents, just submit the required documents and wait for an update from IRCC.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Canada did not provide any measure to people with expired COPR. They had no choice but to reapply. However, the government of Canada has been kind enough towards immigrants and has provided a new measure for approved permanent residents to move to Canada.
