Three Canadian provinces, Ontario, British Columbia, and PEI, issued this week’s latest round of PNP draw results.
An overview of PNP
The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), which was created, recognizes immigration as a shared provincial and federal obligation. It gives provincial governments more sway in deciding which economic immigrants to bring to their particular provinces. This enables them to give preference to qualified individuals who can satisfy the demands of the local labor market and easily assimilate into the provincial economy. In essence, the provinces propose individuals who are most likely to support their long-term growth and success.
It is much more likely for a candidate to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence if he or she is nominated by a province. The CRS provides additional points for Express Entry candidates who are nominated. This almost guarantees an invitation to apply in a future round.
The PNP nominations are distributed to each province in accordance with Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s yearly Immigration Levels Plan, which specifies the aim for permanent resident admission in the next three years.
Provincial governments have recently expressed a desire for greater independence when it comes to economic immigration, seeking agreements similar to Quebec’s with the federal government. Québec is free to choose whose economic immigrants will be accepted under the Canada-Quebec Accord. A contract like this can only be found in this province.
A new IRCC initiative titled Provincial Immigration Levels Plan was approved by the Forum of Ministers Responsible for Immigration in March of this year, despite the fact that such agreements have not yet been reached. As a result, provincial nomination allocations for the next three years will be higher than they have ever been.
Consequently, the provinces will be better equipped to prepare for more immigrants and can ensure that they have enough employment, housing, and other infrastructure to help immigrants and make their province a desirable destination.
PNP draw results between July 15-20
Ontario
As part of the Express Entry Human Capital Priorities Stream, Ontario held two lotteries on July 20.
902 IT job seekers were accepted into the province, while 159 healthcare professionals were accepted into the province. CRS scores between 458 and 462 were required for all applicants.
Express Entry invitations are currently selected based on category, which is similar to these provincial results. Furthermore, the federal Express Entry draw this summer has already awarded ITAs to 2,000 healthcare professionals and 500 STEM applicants.
British Columbia
Inviting a total of over 167 candidates across four distinct draws, British Columbia held its usual Tuesday PNP draw on July 18th. All applicants came from the Express Entry pool as well as the Skilled Workers or International Graduate streams.
The biggest recruitment drive focused on 112 tech-related job seekers who required a minimum SIRS score of 88.
The other three drawings likewise required a minimum SIRS score of 60 and were occupation-specific. Candidates who met these requirements received invites from the province to apply for a number of designated positions.
- 39 invitations were issued to early childhood educators and assistants.
- 16 healthcare professionals received invitations.
- Less than five candidates from other priority occupations were invited.
Prince Edward Island
In the initial PEI PNP draw on July 20, a total of 106 applicants were invited, with two distinct types of invitations.
Moreover, the first category was for candidates applying through the Express Entry and Labor streams. Within the Critical Worker Stream, the government extended invitations to 97 applicants employed by PEI employers, with a minimum EOI score of 50.
Additionally, the province invited nine other applicants who met the required 80 points for the Business Work Permit Entrepreneur stream.
