According to a survey by the Canada Labor Force, data has been released about a huge increase in the unemployment rate in the last two months.
Of all Canada’s provinces, Quebec saw a steep drop in unemployment to 3.9 percent and is the lowest of all provinces. The employment rate for Canada was 61.9 percent in April.
The unemployment rate for those people aged between 25 to 54 fell by 4.3 percent, which is the lowest record since 1976. There has been an increase in the employment rate for young people in the age group of 15 to 24 years and for older people aged 55 years. remained stable for April with no increase or decrease.
Compared to March the unemployment rate for immigrants fell down 5.5% to 5.8%. According to the statics data of Canada it fell into three immigration groups. Compared to those who obtain permanent residence within the last five years it fell from 7.8% to 8.3% in April.
All-inclusive, there is a high job vacancy rate in Canada with over 80,000 unfilled jobs.
- Although 26,500 jobs have been lost in the province of Quebec, the unemployment rate continues to decline.
- Employment increased by 6,700 jobs in the province of New Brunswick, surpassing pre-Covid levels for the first time since easing the pandemic. With this, the unemployment rate for the province of New Brunswick has dropped to 7 percent.
- Additionally, the provinces of Atlantic Canada and Nova Scotia are employed with 5,900 jobs, registering an unemployment rate of 6 percent. During the same month, April, the province of Newfoundland and Labrador added 2500 jobs, meaning the unemployment rate rose to 10.8 percent.
- Alberta tops the list to see growth adding 16,000 jobs from December 2021. With this increase in employment, the province of Alberta has seen a significant decrease in the unemployment rate from 0.6 percent to 5.9 percent. The wholesale and retail industries have played a key role in adding these jobs from 2021 onwards.
- The province of Ontario has seen an increase in employment, adding 14,300 jobs, while the unemployment rate stands at 5.4 percent.
It shows that the federal government and province of Canada are seeking to make easier their rule Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP).
The federal government makes easier its TFWP rules in the month of April, due to the low unemployment rate and the high job vacancy rate in Canada. Also, Canada aims to increase their immigration to address its labor needs. According to the immigration Level plan 2022-2024, Canada aims to welcome more than 430,000 per year.
The reason for this change is that the Express Entry will appear again as the route of immigration for the main economic class of Canada.
There was a huge need for jobs in scientific, professional, and technical services during April. Initially, 15,000 jobs were in these industries, which increased to 121,000 jobs last year. This increased rate is 7.3 percent, the largest number in overall employment growth.
The public administration sector also added 17,000 jobs for the second month in a row, particularly in the province of Quebec. Other industries also see an increase in employment in federal, state, provincial, local, and some indigenous governments. Also, there is a slight decline in unemployment in the courts and protective services.
