On October 5, the province of British Columbia invited 108 skilled workers in the tech industry to apply for a provincial nomination.
The BC Provincial Nominee Program issued invitations via BC PNP British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program Tech.
All those who have been invited through the Tech Draws must be eligible to either Skills immigration categories or Express Entry B.C. Both of these pathways come under the Skills and Immigration Registration System (SIRS).
The eligibility requirement for Skilled Worker and International Graduate categories is 70 points. Last year the standard minimum requirement is 80 points but this year the requirement score has swooped down 10 points more.
Once the candidate has received the invitation, he or she has 30 days of time frame to submit their provincial nomination application.
The province of British Columbia has sent over 9,000 invitations to apply for a PNP since 2021.
What is British Columbia PNP Tech?
In May 2017, BC PNP Tech was established. It was launched just after the labor market study. According to the study, it was found out British Columbia’s technology industry was facing a scarcity of skilled workers. The pilot program was soon turned into a permanent program by the federal government of Canada.
BC PNP Tech aims to attract skilled employers in the province of British Columbia’s tech sector especially international workers if local talent is not available.
This pathway is specially created for tech workers and international graduates. The minimum requirement for the candidate is to be at least registered in any one of the already existing streams for immigrating to Canada. It is also significant that they have a valid job offer upto 12 months.
The job offer should be listed as any of the 29 eligible occupations lists, to be eligible for the stream.
