In the latest round of the Express Entry draw, IRCC has granted ITAs. The latest Express Entry draw invited 1613 PNP candidates.
Candidates need to have a CRS score of 743 in order to be considered for the September 19, 2024, draw. 4,000 candidates from the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) were invited to this draw, which had a minimum qualifying score of 509. This draw’s cutoff score was slightly higher than the previous CEC-only draw on August 27, which was 507. 21,800 ITAs have been given to CEC candidates as a result of extra CEC-specific draws that the IRCC has carried out since July. In order to help the IRCC achieve its annual targets for permanent residency, this effort reflects its goal of increasing domestic draws while reducing the number of temporary residents in Canada. Following four draws in October 2023 that produced a total of 9,173 ITAs, today’s draw is the first for October.
Comprehending the Express Entry System
The Canadian government selects talented immigrants for permanent residency through the Express Entry system. This system evaluates applicants based on factors like age, work experience, education, and language proficiency.
Candidates must qualify for one of three programs under Express Entry: Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program, or Federal Skilled Trades Program. They are then ranked using the CRS, which scores them based on the listed criteria. Also, a higher CRS score increases the chances of receiving an ITA for permanent residency.
Applicants can earn additional CRS points for having a spouse or common-law partner, a sibling in Canada, Canadian work experience, or Canadian education. These points can further improve their chances of securing an ITA.
An Introduction to Category-Based Selection Draws
CRS scores are often lower in category-based selection draws, a new draw type that the IRCC implemented in May 2023. The purpose of these draws was to assist the government in choosing Express Entry applicants with certain talents in order to fill important labor or demographic shortages. Moreover, the IRCC has designated six areas for these draws: trades, healthcare, agri-food and agriculture, transportation, professions in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), and French language proficiency.
Following extensive stakeholder engagements, a detailed examination of the labor market, and careful consideration of the department’s objective of guaranteeing that 6% of all new arrivals settle in French-speaking minority communities outside of Quebec, these categories were developed. Candidates must still be in the Express Entry pool, even though the CRS cut-off scores for these draws are typically lower than those for program-specific or general draws. A higher CRS score is still beneficial.
