Immigration Canada’s processing list now has more than 2 million people in all areas of business.
The immigration backlog in Canada has increased for temporary and permanent residents. Simultaneously, the backlog of citizenship jumped by nearly 400,000 persons in April, as compared to over 453000 in March.
The list of backlogs since last summer has progressed is given below:
- July 6, 2021: 1,447,474 People
- October 27, 2021: 1,792,404 People
- December 15, 2021: 1,813,144 People

CUAET is driving the increment
Between March and April, most of the increase was seen in the temporary residence list. There are over 1.1 million residence applicants who applied for work and study permits waiting for the processing. About 870,000 people on March 17.
According to the media report of IRCC, IRCC introduced Canada-Ukraine Authority for Emergency Travel which is CUAET. The list of temporary resident visas and work permits has increased significantly. According to this program, IRCC is able to bring people to Canada through existing temporary resident visa procedures, infrastructure, and networks. This route is for temporary residents of Canada and it is not a refugee program. 180,903 CUAET applications are received by IRCC till April 29.
Express Entry improving amid a slight rise among permanent residency applicants but return to all program draws in July
The list of permanent residence inventory is about 530,000 people, on April 11, compared to March 519,000.
The reduction in the files of Express Entry was the reason that led the Immigration Minister of Canada to announce that all immigration draws will start again from July and that the processing time for most new applicants would return to six months. The invitation round for the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) has been temporarily put on hold from December 2020. The main pathway of IRCC to welcome skilled immigrants is Express Entry.
Conclusion:
IRCC is grappling with a huge inventory increase caused by the pandemic. The budget of IRCC has to reduce the waiting time for newcomers is $85.
This funding is based on the work which IRCC has already done to reduce the waiting time for newcomers like digitizing applications, hiring new staff, and reallocation work around the world.
